Jeezus Wept!!! What have they done to the controls???

I jus left station to go to rat site. I lost all sensible control of the drones and what they were doing. When I managed to get them back in I could hardly find a station or a way to get there. What in the HELL has ccp just done???

Something happened a few patches back... my camera controls get screwed up and I need to hit universal scroll on my mouse to un-screw it. When things are fracked clicking in space just gets you a pointless select box. It's a weird problem... It happens to me once every 9-10 logins, and restarting the launcher and client fixes it too.

Not a big deal... but something changed.

For me clicking on one of the camera modes, preferably the one already active anyway, does the trick in that situation. Or hitting shift + C twice. I think that's auto-tracking or something.

same problems.

I have a key bind for the camera reset. I don't recall if I set the hotkeys myself or if they're default, but when my camera cuts anchor I hit Alt+1. It's reflexive now.

The selection box is a 'feature' and it happens when I right-click while moving my mouse. It's usually accidental but it also happens when I'm trying to activate a radial menu. So whatever your right-click menu delay, your mouse has to remain still unless you want marquee select.

The bigger issue with the marquee is it cancels what you were trying to do, like activate the right-click menu. If you get marquee selection, you have to release the right mouse button and wait out the delay with our mouse perfectly still.

Not only is it the definition of repetitive and clunky, but combined with the radial menu it's a one-two punch: Radial menu requires you to pause your game input device until it appears, and if you move the mouse at all, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200.

It's like 50 millisecond sessions of torture

The layout of radial menu is good: a bunch of options that appear around your cursor. The activation is bad, and it should be connected to a keybind. Zero delay, radial menu pops up when I press the hotkey, and it disappears when I release the hotkey, no delay.

Marquee selection falls flat on its face for a few reasons: The selection shape is limited to a square. What if the cluster is a circle? What if your targets are not grouped properly to fit within a square at all?

You cannot filter the locked targets in the selection box, which means if you have enemies and friendlies in the same square, you'll start locking both. Anything you have enabled in overview, I guess? Including friendly drones and gates?

You can't limit the selection area by distance. Basically the range of selection marquee is 0 to whatever your lockrange. It's just a very hamfisted tool.

What would be better is a range bubble that you can click and drag from an origin ship. You could also tie it in with the existing hotkeys we know: Ctrl+Click. Say if you Ctrl+Click+Drag on a hostile ship and pull the bubble til it says 20 km, you start locking all hostiles in that bubble.

What's also great about this type of selection tool is that you can lock ships that are off-screen. Even if you're zoomed in, Ctrl+Click+Drag a bubble to 20 km.

I haven't checked, but a start would be only locking what's active in overview. Overview tabs are sets of filters that you've made beforehand, and some type of target selection tool would need a filter.

When I posted this it was late at night. I was experiencing some very strange control behavior while in a ship. I'm now pretty certain it was fallout from the update transfer. I probably should have anticipated that, but it was pretty startling at the moment. Today everything seems to be back in order.

While it may not fix it for you, instead of restarting, try just tapping the crtl key.

(Sometimes windows gets confused and things a key is pressed when it's not. happens in a bunch of different applications. a single tap generally clears that. Or it could be an eve problem)

----> holding CTRL you can drag a Box in Space, everything in that Box will be locked....AWESOME FEATURE if you like to lock the enemy Drones around you or in fast pace Frigate Fights,where you lock targets on Grid and not in the Overview !

Thats the BOX you mentioned i believe :)

I set my radial menu delay to zero and its actually really comfortable. Once you get used to the weirdness of it flashing up when you click stuff normally on some parts of the interface it becomes a really fast way to do lots of various things.

A keybind approach seems like a pretty neat option though.
