Initial reaction: "fck!", "lol" or "oh well" depending on if I should have won it, didn't care or tried something I knew was a long shot
second reaction: "what could I have done better"

First loss was a retriever to two pilots of Immortalis. Had a nice chat with them afterwards, though it was sort of a setback less than a month into the game. The only other loss in HS ever in almost 6 years was an empty noob ship in Sivala to Marmite.

Losses are part of the fun. The only time I wasn't really pleased was a very badly prepared wh eviction op I'd joined, where the defenders managed to bring roughly 110 ships and literally blew us away within a couple of minutes. But well, that too is part of mmos Smile.

Remove standings and insurance.

After I get blown up, I’m always sad...

But then, more often than not, Scarlett Johansson walks into my room and says, “Sup...”. So I’m all like, “Sup...”. Then she says, “Want some sex?”. And I’m like, “I can do better...”. Then she begs a little and says something like, “But, Baby, I need you so bad! My loins ache for you!”. Eventually I give in with a, “Fine... stop nagging. Just don’t tell anyone, OK? I don’t want people to know that I settled for a nine...”. Then we bump uglies... and that’s pretty much, more or less, how that goes...

I always respond with a 'Eh...'.

Then look at the lossmail, go back to reship, at the same time reassess what has happened and figure out how to win the next encounter with a similar ship.

I've only really start bitching about the loss when it's caused by goddamn lagspikes. Otherwise, I am so accustomed to losses in combat situations that I barely react to them anymore.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

On my first loss exploring in Null I stayed away from Null for a long time.
Yesterday I got blown up doing Blood raider Sides just seconds away from the pill when he landed on null with a recon (no D-scan for me). Just really bad (or goodP) timing. I was shaking with adrenalin and the only thing I'm sorry about is the lost time to get a new ship. Had a nice talk with the winner and he even contracted me the pill.
So I got me a new ship and will be heading out tomorrow again and will have fun again.

Over the last couple years it was pretty much just macros to apply for SRP before the rest of fleet so I can get paid sooner. It's also really annoying to wait for the self destruct timer? And duel requesting people in lowsec from your pod to avoid the wait doesn't always work. So I guess most of my reaction is putting away the toys and taking care of admin so I can go do something more important such as anything.

Actually my reaction mostly depends of what killed my ship.
- if it is NPC that is't the most painful and embarassing: i lost to game mechanics.... What?Cry
- if it is player then:
- if it is fleet op - then 'ok guyz, have fun and good luck, pod-express home and have fun somewhere else' Lol
- if it is some random encounter:
- i was attacked and killed - damn, need to buy new ship. Glad i dropped all the cargo - no expensive losses in lossmail Lol
- i decided to attack and died - damn, why i ALWAYS screw all the things? Like dieing in Svipul to drones, being scrammed and never switched mode from 'speed' to 'tank'..... What?

In short: i don't feel much fun in killing other players unless i'm hunting for nice loot. And my main feel about losing is that i need to buy and fit new ship. Good if i already have something on hand. Bad if i need to get something to use next time.

"Derp, I did x wrong". Mostly pissy at myself for messing it up, but that goes away as soon as I reship. Then I try to not do x wrong again.

If it's a gang-bang or lop-sided battle, I feel rage.

edit: and stay away from the Crimson Harvest sites in low sec unless you're well-prepared for PVP. Those things are magnets for gankers.

At first I pretend like it didn't happen. Obviously the loss mails are faked by a global conspiracy to ruin me.
Then I'm angry. Like green skinned rage monster angry.
Then I try and bargain with the game like, "Just give me back my ship and we can still be friends."
Then I get really sad, wondering if I'm just terrible at this PVP thing and maybe I should go be a miner or something.
Finally, I'm just like, "Fine, whatever.", get a new ship and undock again.
