Hi guys, haven't found a clear answer about this matter anywere:

When does an cost index of a system changes? Daily? Once a month?

Thanks.

I believe the system cost index is dynamic. I frequently have situations where I am submitting multiple jobs and get a job cost has changed message part way through.

This, better to start all your jobs off in order of most expensive BPO first theres a few niches and exceptions to this but for the most part its sound advice.

Ive managed to get 150 or so jobs running before noticing a change from 0.10% thats with the chars logged in and ready to roll at the lab , i can only guess that nobody else had any part to play in this as it seems pretty standard for me when i rotate across systems to avoid the taxman. Hope that helps a little.

It's a 2 weeks rolling average afaik.

I'm my own NPC alt.

I _think_ it's 28 days. But that's going off a memory which may well be invented. But it's definitely a rolling average.

Ok. I checked the system index a few days ago and today it changed few points. I'm assuming it is in fact dynamic?

Thank you

Yes.

I've had it change mid job entry on me. (needing me to click off, then back on the blueprint)

Are you guys sure it was the index value that changed, and not the base cost of the item you were installing (job cost esentially being index * base cost, this would cause the installation cost to change just the same)?

The latter seems to update far more frequently, in my experience. I don't know that I've ever noticed an index increase other than at DT, but I can't say I've ever really stared at it that intently.

I'll be installing hundreds of slot-hours worth of jobs here pretty shortly; I'll see if it budges before downtime.

In the last few hours I've installed quite a few jobs, though, and while I haven't seen the index change at all yet, I've seen several revisions of the base cost for an item.

Edit:

Ah, yeah, it does change outside of DT - although, again, it doesn't seem to do so nearly as frequently as the base cost, from my casual observation.

I used this to check it:

https://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/blueprint/costindex.php

Yesterday it actually changed so I think it's correct to assume it's dynamic.

I had another question related to this subject, does POS doing jobs in the system affect the cost index or is just related to stations? As for engineering complexes I don't know how it will work.

Thanks

It's based on all jobs in the system, whether at a station, POS, or soon engineering complex.

I believe the cost index for a system updates once per hour.

Just a note:

I'm only updating that once per hour. It may change more frequently.

The system cost index is based on the number of "job hours" in a system; not the number or value of the jobs. A POS or EC will have a time efficiency bonus so will contribute less to the index than the same job in a station.
