Obligatory: "It depends."

What kind of tactic are you going to use?

Ranged? If so...
--- full on ranged sniper-fit?
--- medium distance kitey fit?

Up close? If so...
--- full self-repairing (see: "Local Reps")?
--- gang oriented with possible Remote Repair support?
--- brick style buffer?
--- bait?

Do you prefer more damage or more survivability? What about speed?
Are you attempting to keep up with a group of friendlies? What are their ship types?

A ship's fitting can cause a ships EHP to vary wildly.

For battlecruisers... you can go anywhere from 30 to 40k EHP (if fit as cheapo Warfare Link support for a cruiser gang) to 150k EHP for full on "bait" fits.

Ships are fit for a strong "Local" tank tend to have less EHP than a ship fit for buffer/gang oriented tactics... but can soak up more damage as long as it stays below a certain threshold.

50-60k if you have some range and RR in fleet. I used the harby with that much EHP when in 3-10ppl gang.
120k when no RR or only 1-2 of you.

Note that the Tier 3 BCs (Talos, Oracle, Tornado and Naga) dish out Battleship level damage but generally rock with Cruiser level EHP.

Ships like the Drake and Prophecy can be brick tanked with near absurd amounts of EHP.
