What do you do for ISK?

Is it fun? How did you get into it?

I personally love exploration and have tried it in high, low, and null security space around the map. I got into it when a Russian friend tought me how to probe back in the day. I later realized I could make way more ISK by running small lowsec DED's than I could grinding missions. There's also a You Tuber who does exploration guides, along with other EVE content. He's pretty chill to listen to and most of his advice is on-point. I bet a lot of Alpha pilots are going to find his stuff helpful.

You don't have to say how much you make, although you certainly can. I'm not rich, but exploration definitely pays a chunk if you know how to do it right.

For ISK? Industry, PI, some mission running. It's fun, but not my main focus. That's exploration, but I tend to spend more time wandering around and looking at stuff than actually collecting garbage, wait, I mean running sites

Anyway, I can't really say I do exploration for ISK, it's only for fun, if I find something nice, it's more an extra bonus.

Still, back when I started playing space archaeologist, I actually thought what I'm doing in the game would resemble archaeology. Man, was I wrong. If I were in a high enough position at CCP I would rename exploration to "Space Garbage Colllection", because that's what it feels like for me. If it weren't for the tons of neat stuff you can find and look at, I'd given up on EVE long ago. (Of course looking at neat stuff doesn't give you ISK, see above. P )

Ive done pretty much everything in eve to make isk. Mostly grinding rats in null in various forms and exploration. Now i do pretty much whatever i want and can be as inefficient about it as a i want. I mostly run havens, plexes, and exploration sites now for pve, though i dont do it for the isk. Most of the time i spend in game is spent doing pvp though.

Today I logged into Eve Online and I needed to buy a new Anathema. I was in Dodixie and my fit was all there except for the tech II Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade. Sinq Laison's Regional Market shows it was completely sold out.

This is usually how my game starts. Totally random event like that where I could run to Jita and bring back like .. I dunno 20 of them and relist them for a little higher than they should be regularly in Sinq Laison. Other times it's something really a snooze fest like mining gas.

Since I live in a wormhole, it's also very random when I undock and probe. I could exit just about anywhere and that could lead to me doing DED sites or maybe there's a wormhole in the chain with like 22 anoms. Or maybe there's a guy who's running a site in a faction battleship with a 2-51 zkillboard record and whatever falls out of his ship is my paycheck.

My point is, the ISK is a bit secondary. I like to do a little bit of everything or else I'd burn out.

Changed over time from more active stuff like Exploration to more passive stuff ... now my main income comes from PI + T2 production plus some trade on opportunities. On top PvP loot, MTUs, lost geckos, fighters, and clone soldier tags collected on the fly while roaming. Also the events are usually temporary cash cows, I'm looking forward to the blood raiders ...

I'm my own NPC alt.

I kill retrievers in the name of James 315 and the New Order of Highsec.

It is indeed fun.

I got into by witnessing, first hand, the horrors of old Highsec and realizing the need for change.

I make 5-10 mil per gank on average.

I tend to do a different activity every month.

For the last few weeks, it's been FW and plexing. Before that, it was hacking / exploration. Before that, it was low sec ratting and PI.

I'm now doing WH diving. I recently found a vacant C1-C3 WH and am just messing about and seeing how much ISK I can extract before I get bored.

Roll See, this is exactly how the Damsel keeps getting into the mess she's always in. I keep trying to tell people that, but nobody ever listens. Her mother would be rolling in her grave.

On OP's question: Missions for me, same as has always been. I do much more exploration nowadays than I have in the past, mainly due to the event sites if you count that as exploration. (shrugs) Eh, still works for me.

Here's the real story about the Damsel. A really funny story, highly recommended.

the good thing about trying to be a true pirate (and gatecamper) is that you actualy make money from it. you know, the pirates that actualy don't want to die gloriously but the ones that want all the loots, yaaarrrrrrrrr Pirate

won't get filthy rich from it but it more than pays the bills and for autists like me it's exciting.

For the last year and a half or so, mostly gas/exploration/combat sites in WHs. I've done a few missions when I want a more relaxing day, but HS is fairly boring to me, so I try to stay out of it. Any mods dropped from PvP generally goes to the good of the group, not to individual wallets.

Biggest ISK in game is probably trading & manufacturing. It all depends on play style. If you like actively flying space ships to make ISK, then exploration and WH and such are pretty good and fun options. If you really enjoy exploration it can be fun living in a WH with null/LS connections, as you always get new places to explore.

But as I mentioned with trading/manufacturing, there is tons of ISK to be made while never undocking, which can be pretty fun too if you like strategy/management type of game play.

... what? trading and manufacturing isn't huge isk. Except for the select small group of incredibly dedicated traders, nullsec carrier ratting will yield more isk for you, especially considering the more time you spend doing it, the more you'll make, something that does not scale quite as well with station trading and manufacturing. The more you produce, the more you try to flip, the longer it takes orders and volume to move. As for Wormholes, the isk hasn't been 'pretty good' since the Citadel expansion. It's okay, but there's a good reason lots of the already small w-space population have left.

I'd definitely reccomend WH and lowsec exploration for fun, for trying new things and doing something that isn't quite as repetitive, but properly skilled for it, nullsec carrier ratting is easier, less risky, and more reliable than practically anything else. Also pretty damn boring though, so I don't do it.

Once you get above 10 billion ISK, trade beats most things. You can make 10-20% every month. It also scales well, so you can make more money the more you put in. The only risk is a fat fingered sale where you buy/sell for a stupid price in error. If you are lazy you can just accept a lower payout from your trades of 2 or 3 percent. If you have 200 billion ISK, that is a payout of 4-6 billion a month.
