What do you do for ISK?

Is it fun? How did you get into it?

I personally love exploration and have tried it in high, low, and null security space around the map. I got into it when a Russian friend tought me how to probe back in the day. I later realized I could make way more ISK by running small lowsec DED's than I could grinding missions. There's also a You Tuber who does exploration guides, along with other EVE content. He's pretty chill to listen to and most of his advice is on-point. I bet a lot of Alpha pilots are going to find his stuff helpful.

You don't have to say how much you make, although you certainly can. I'm not rich, but exploration definitely pays a chunk if you know how to do it right.

I make a lot of money with high sec combat exploration, if I have a few hours I tend to make some 200-500 mil. it's enjoyable, competitive and requires a few braincells, patience and initiative. Been doing this for years. I also do mission busting and the odd ganking for income and used to do wardecs for income but the changes made it nigh impossible for a solo player to do wardecs (wardecs are now done differently which is actually worse for the targets in many ways, a clear case of "be sure what you wish for").

I created this character to get into trading and manufacturing, something I never bothered with in all my years, to try something different and perhaps rekindle my love for EVE. It's making good isk but to me it's boring so I'll probably stop doing it.

Biggest ISK in game is probably trading & manufacturing. It all depends on play style. If you like actively flying space ships to make ISK, then exploration and WH and such are pretty good and fun options. If you really enjoy exploration it can be fun living in a WH with null/LS connections, as you always get new places to explore.

But as I mentioned with trading/manufacturing, there is tons of ISK to be made while never undocking, which can be pretty fun too if you like strategy/management type of game play.

Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

When I first started, I did missions. My goal was to unlock jumpclones, but the isk was nice. I started buying and selling ships through the trade channels after that and plexed a few months for my efforts. Overall I had fairly modest returns, but I really enjoyed having a hangar full of faction and Tech II battleships that I couldn't even sit in. So far, ratting in a carrier has provided me with the most isk/hr, but I was not particularly enthralled with it.
With the orca changes on the horizon, I decided to pick up a pick and start swinging. I've enjoyed mining in about every other game that I've played, so I might as well try it here too.
I'm not too sure about giving mining yield bonus to the orca. That seems like it will lead to disaster.
Though it will be immensely popular.
Which leads to my favorite way to make isk: speculation.
When changes are announced or alluded to in big releases, I like to invest every .01 that I can into the modules and ships that are getting changed. It can go incredibly well for me or I could lose huge swaths of isk in a bad release. It's great!

At the moment, because I am studying and don't have a lot of time to devote to actual gameplay, I have been making ISK through PI, manufacturing and mining. PI is basically free ISK as once you set it up you can leave it running, come back in a week or so to collect the goods then rinse and repeat. Manufacturing is a bit more involved because you need to play the market to get the most out of it. I don't think I have figured it out yet but mostly I have been researching BP efficiencies up. Mining is generally regarded as dull and boring but seeing as I am studying I can alt-tab in and out of EVE to adjust my mining then go back to writing my assignments.

A good strategy that people often overlook is to train up your two other character slots. Get their PI skills up to scratch and set it all up to make free ISK across all three of your characters. Literally only have to log into them once a fortnight to click a few buttons.

Roll See, this is exactly how the Damsel keeps getting into the mess she's always in. I keep trying to tell people that, but nobody ever listens. Her mother would be rolling in her grave.

On OP's question: Missions for me, same as has always been. I do much more exploration nowadays than I have in the past, mainly due to the event sites if you count that as exploration. (shrugs) Eh, still works for me.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

I run a vertically integrated business with several characters in both highsec and nullsec. I harvest some of my material, build stuff, haul it to market and sell it. My characters are more like employees than avatars. The fun, for me is in the strategic planning more than the tactical execution. It is very profitable and I have complete flexibility for when and how long I play. If I don't have time to mine, I can buy my minerals - product is still profitable. If I don't have time to micromanage my market orders - stuff still sells, just not as quickly.

I expect that I could make more by specializing but it wouldn't be nearly as much fun.

And this is one of the learning curves of EVE. Sure you can make a whole load of ISK but unless you are having fun there's little point. Ultimately EVE is more about balancing your activities so that your income offsets your expenses than it is about 'making the most money'. Some of the best fun can be had rigging up T1 frigates and going out and getting blown up.

A player that left gave me their stuff.

120Billion ISK and 200 Billion in ships and modules.

It pays to request it in forum threads.

Been playing on and off since 07

First day was missions, days 2-4 were mining fuckml.

By day 5 i was over PVE so i started stealing ore from jet cans, not only was pissing off players fun, but by my first month in game i had earned more than 500 million isk from ore theft.

Gave up ore theft after a month and started playing the market a bit with that 500 million, first big success at trading to me was buying faction ammo in jita and selling it all over low sec systems for 2-5 times as much as jita value. Delved into trading more.

Started low sec piracy and made some isk with loot and ransoms, but nothing compared to what i was making in the market.

By the end of my first year in EVE I put low sec piracy on the back burner and started suicide ganking afk haulers in jita until ccp stealth nerfed drops and word got out. Competition and loot theft depleted that gold mine, before ccp ultimately implemented autopilot docking feature. I made my easy tens of billions while it was still good though, and rolled it into the market.

Now I'm anti pirate, anti gank, full time trader for all my isk. During a good hour of "grinding" the market I can earn as much as 2 billion isk, my hourly average is far less though, but probably still better than any other means of making isk in game, but i could be mistaken.

Those are literally the only ways i have made money during my entire EVE career, have not tried anything else.

I run a business. Im with the guy thats managing his alts like employees rather than players. That and thinking, building and just creating characters, sourcing productions, integrating it both vertically and horizontally and synergizing my operation. It keeps me busy and my mind occupied and is more a solo activity then a group thing. I also enjoy being my own boss in that sense and making my own "hours". I do this mostly because I dont have to work in RL so I just try to be productive in game and Eve has been an amazing psychological outlet for that productive energy and creativity over the years giving so many facets that Ive found people need in order to thrive mentally and emotionally. Big smile

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

This year it funded our very poor performance in the Alliance Tournament.

We are starting training for next year shortly, so I think in terms of the ISK, an Etana could be on the cards.

i do a few different things for my ISK.

When I started out I did a little writing for an EVE news outlet (TheMittani.com) as their 'Resident Newbro'. This paid rather well, the downside is that it's exactly what I do 9-5 in my real job and it wound up really putting a dent in my ability to enjoy EVE.

Then I moved onto PI and 0.0 anomaly running in a VNI.

Nowadays I do PI, run anomalies and harvest gas in wormholes.
