Why Are the First Ratting Ticks Shorter?

I notice when I rat that the first tick is 15 - 17 minutes long, and the ticks after that are 20 minutes long.

I was told this was because thee is a global tick timer, where everyone gets paid at the same time, but the ticks seem to be happening at odd intervals (not something consistent like 12:00, 12:20, 12:40).

Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

Because it's simply not an exact 20 minute system. It likely isn't a system that runs on a mere 20 minute clock and other factors play into trigger the payouts. I've noticed that it tends to line up with a rat kill when I'm watching for it and running a mission (or multiple in the same system) that takes longer than 20 minutes to clear. If I'm sitting in station, it tends to lean closer to 20 minute cycles.

20 minutes is what it seems to shoot for initially, though it's rather obvious that other things get tracked and push it up or down within some internal margin.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."
