New Character Sheet/Skill Queue

The good:

  • looks pretty (I guess)
  • can see unlocked skills/ships/modules by icon next to skills (awesome)
  • can check certificates from the skill queue (although it currently requires checking certificates once to update the count)
  • can see an overview of how far you are across each category BUT that's far less relevant than how much SP you've devoted to each one, which is lost so this is both a good change and bad

The bad:

  • both me and others found the new queued skill listing and available skill pool to be harder to browse and parse visually than before (it's too big even at 90% scaling and 1080p, with all the other windows around - the previous one fit snugly and was just right). Either have a compact mode or a side-by-side mode like before, this layout adds no new information and makes it harder to get a grasp on things
  • no easy way to see how much SP you have devoted to each category at a glance (see above)
  • colors on skill levels are very confusing - we had a hard time figuring out what they actually meant, when it should be obvious (especially since it seems like the whole thing is being changed for the sake of new players) (btw I do like the half-trained icon)
  • can't see portrait, school, link-to-self, home, corp/alliance, sec rating etc. etc. but this may just be a bug
  • Too many damned Omega symbols - seriously, even in the ship tree. It makes far more sense to tell alphas what's omega-only, than tell omegas what's omega only. Yellow boxes on everything, ships, modules, the works. It works opposite of how it should and this is why I'm assuming it's a bug, but seriously, not cool.
  • Injector suggestion on the skill queue - Previously, there was a box you could close over the skill pane on the character sheet. That was fine, you could dismiss it and it never came back, just like it should be. This one just stays there, nagging away. I already know about skill injectors, I don't need a useless icon reminding me of them every time I open my queue (nor do alphas)
  • No clear option to exclude fully trained skills. I know the "Can be trained now" filter is supposed to do the same, but it doesn't imply it clearly. Honestly, the previous filters were good enough and clear enough. Could just be me being used to them, but it feels the filter names now are harder to understand.
  • Tooltips get in the way of actually seeing other skills (one more reason it should be a list, with a side tooltip, not a grid - at least have an option) and they often disappear as you're trying to get to the "Add to Queue" button. Would be better if there was an icon, on hover, that you can just click to add to the end of the queue, like the multibuy window has next to items to remove them
  • "2x" training speed. This is horrible. I don't need my epeen encouraged by pretending I'm somehow training faster, especially since, if I'm subbed, it will always be 2x! Far better to just show a "Training Speed: Half" label or something like that, only for alphas and get rid of it for omegas, if you're going forward with that at all. Personally, I don't think alphas should train slower at all since they already have an SP/skill cap, but please don't have that crap in our face every time. It's as redundant as the injector icon is and really just one more thing for our banner blindness to have to filter out. Also, this is one more thing to explain to rookies all over again, make sure it's obvious what it means.
  • Don't include ships not on the skill tree in the unlock icons next to skills. Those who know about those ships, how to get them and where, will know to figure out the skills. For everyone else it's either redundant and irrelevant or just One More Thing We Need To Explain To Rookies (tm). There's already so much work we need to do with rookies (which should be done by the game's introduction instead) - between players and ISDs, there's just not enough horsepower to deal with it all. Please don't add more crap we need to explain - make things as obvious as possible and with as little irrelevant information as possible.
  • Why no save option in the skill queue anymore? Either have a save option or let us copy-paste the entire skill queue into a note, in an importable format at least (and can we please have both?). Without a save option we can't easily and quickly theorycraft skill queues and measure time. It's a cruel punishment to have to keep extra notes and do extra work just because you want to see how long it'll take you to train some ship skills for instance. Definitely a regression.
  • Requirement listings for skills/modules/ships etc. need tooltips. Maybe even add some colored backgrounds for each of them, like before, to make it clear which ones you have, which ones are not trained and which ones are. This new format is harder to parse visually and understand.
  • Don't show skills we don't have injected by default. It's confusing. Make it an option to show those, since it can be useful to get an overview, but most of the time, we open the skill queue to train skills, not see which ones we don't have yet.
  • Don't have gold borders on omega-only ships/modules/skills for omegas. Much like that damn "This skill cannot be trained on Trial Accounts" tooltip, which was everywhere and confused rookies to no end, the gold borders are working opposite from what they should. They should appear only for alphas and only for whatever is prohibited for that alpha's faction. It should be abundantly clear and never confusing, whether someone is in alpha or omega state. Use gold borders for exceptions, not the rule.

btw, sorry to have such a long list of negatives, especially after the new fitting window which was long needed and quite well done. The new queue/sheet isn't a failure but it definitely smells of unneeded corporate marketing absurdity - a lot of things in the previous one worked fine.

What was the worst for me was trying to read the skills cathegories sideways. Trying to make sense of all those cathegories when new to EVE Online is hard enough. Having to tilt your head sideways to see what is writen is a bit painfull. They could be angled 45 degrees or so and it would make it a LOT easier. I have just about 100m SP so I have a lot trained I am not a new player and trying to find the right cathegory was a bit rough even though I knew exactly what I was looking for.

Identifying the untrained skills was very easy though once in the right place. The new layout for individual skills was great.

Although, when checking for required skills in the "show info" of a ship it was easier to see the missing skills when they were red. but that could be just a thing to get used to.

Yeah, the vertical text is not good.

I seem to recall a previous attempt at a UI interface element that had vertical text getting removed because it was such a pita to read. Can't quite remember what it was though.

There seems to be no way to see how much SP goes into a single skill (i.e. training time multiplier) without opening the attributes tab in the information window. Also, you can't see progress done in terms of SP on your partially trained skills. This information is fairly useful when determining things like how many injectors you would need in order to get into that shiny new assault frigate you got for example. To put it differently, injectors add to a value that is now mostly hidden. In addition, a new player that isn't familiar with the game would probably wonder why some skills take longer to train than others if it's left like this. Also, with only time to train displayed, it would be tricky to determine if you're looking at a high training time multiplier skill or a skill you're not mapped for. Would be great if you could add this information in the tool-tips at least.

Also the primary/secondary attribute pop-up for categories, why not add that to individual skills instead/as well? It varies somewhat within the categories, and would be more useful information if you had it displayed on a per skill basis.

TLDR;

- Please make the training time multiplier readily visible.
- Please make progress visible in terms of SP too, not just time.
- It would be nice to have the primary/secondary attribute information available without going through the hoops of opening the information window for every skill you're interested in.
