If you live in High-Sec, what is the draw here?

For me, it was establishing some ISK to allow me to absorb loss. It's a good fall back for if I lose all of my ships (hey, can't all be as good as Suitonia you know!)

If I lost everything, I'd HAVE to come back to high sec to rebuild.

Once I've rebuilt, I'd be back in Null ASAP.

That's me. That's why I need highsec to exist. I need to be able to walk, before I can fly.

Hows about you? Why are you there? Why do YOU need highsec to exist?

mostly for the joy of flying space ships and enjoying visuals.

and getting a build up of isk ratting in expensive, but pretty ships is nice and relaxing (specially with friends)


once i feel i have enough isk saved up, i'll usually go exploring into nullsec (using a much cheaper ship, aka manticore, astero, Prospect, or anything else with cov ops cloak)

and do what i love most. rat and mine.
i'll rat any battlecruiser/battleship rats i find in mining belts in my manticore (mostly for the isk bounty, but if they drop some good loot thats nice. specially if its MORE torpedos. once i get a full cargo hold...this means i need to start planning a trip back to highsec to drop it off)

i'll try...TRY... to mine some of the more "Exotic" ores in null (but i'm a scaredy cat. the moment someone shows up on d-scan or if i just get spooked by...well anything, i'll cut the mining lasers and cloak asap. float 20-30km from the asteroid of my interest and wait till i feel safe.
-you'd be amazed how often i get spooked...its normal for me to never finish a full mining cycle and instead cut it off at 10-25% multiple times.

and astero or stratios..i'll try to find a pvp fight....but this is rare as i can never find a solo fight i'm comfortable will remain a solo fight and not a gang murdering me. so my "killboard" for this is still rather....empty........the few times i've almost gotten kills, either they get away or have friends show up on d-scan(remember how easily i get spooked?) and i end up hiding.



i'm a carebear till the end and proud, but the occasional nullsec adventure like this helps get rid of any boredom that ever develops. even if i spend most of my time cloaked looking around scared.

even when i'm in highsec, i'm constantly planning my next adventure (usually by refitting my manticore and prospect builds to find a cheaper, or more efficent, or safer build.)


highsec is my castle, my fallback, my safespot.
without it, i would never get the courage to go nullsec as i wouldn't have that knowledge that somewhere is safe for me.

I am a full time Highsec dweller.

I too like the casual experience, there are always targets around. Just login, blap some miners, destroy some rebels, log out again, it is a lot of fun actually.

Industrialists, even from the beginning of Eve, have found a home in high sec as people ship things from the 'fringes' of null to the waiting hordes of shoppers in Yulai, then Jita et al later on.

Being able to do, go and see most things was always a facet for me. I hated the faction lock out splits when they showed up and have fiercely railed against that since. Freedom of movement and able to play all areas of the game has meant a lot for me. I have made many forays into null, low but have always kept a base(s) in high sec not just as a fall back but as a way to take a break without taking a break, from the game, from the politics and bullshit. It affords me a laissez faire play mode where I can dabble or go hardcore and when I get that urge to create a plan of action I go forth into the area where I can do so and put said plan into action.

Not all plans last beyond first contact..... but that is life isnt it? Regroup and go at it again.

All told this is my 6th and longest foray into null and my 6th long break from it.

Sometimes it is nice to relax and do some missions without the need to watch your back.

It is like vacation and like vacation it gets boring if you have too much of it.

See, there is such an incredible variety of reasons for high sec.

I wouldn't want to see any of you get nerfed.

May you forever keep playing in the sandbox "your way" and not some armchair generals way.

This knowledge gets lost over the eons of playing. I'm a vet, but I'm not salty or bitter. I'm just forgetful.

I just didn't have any sort of goals or direction in lowsec or null, so I up and started gate ganking in highsec. I guess I'll just keep doing that until I can think of something more productive or lucrative to do with my time.

I HATE mining. I've never done it. Not since the day I started playing. Also: Industry lost it's luster quickly for me. I tried to get into it for a good spell in my first few years and just couldn't start caring. Having said that... I really get where you are coming from on this. I think industrialists are really getting shafted in nullsec, and I agree it's a problem for the ecosystem as a whole. I also get the diversified activities draw that is so foundational in EvE. Despite your experience being so very far apart from mine, I think your post resonates with me the most. It's a really good and understated point.

I'm retired from null, a long time now. These days I rat, mine,explore etc. I turned from Privateer to Profiteer.
