Null security space is full of oddly named systems like WY-99L, GA-P6C, Poitot, 9KOE-A etc... Who, on earth, must remember all those random numbers or letters...

1. Every sunday at 23:55 CONCORD will select one system in null regions, that will be renamed. Selection will be based on amount of ISK, that sov. holder lost to not blue entities in PvP engagements during the week.
2. Soverenity holder, who will still hold the sov at 23:55 next sunday, can set new name for that system. Name can be from 4 to 8 latin letters, no numbers. Must be unique and not offending in any of 6 Eve languages.
3. Already named systems or systems without soverenity will not participate in selection. Region, and it's surrrending regions, can participate in selection only once per 2 months.

You want your name in eve history forever? Hold the sov till the end of the week and now your part of sandbox will be with us till the end of the game. I am sure for many players that would be motivation for actions like world war bee, but short and brutal.

"****" counts as number, so - illegal.

Ok, since high/low sec systems names means nothing (with very few exceptions), we can put same restrictions here. It must be one word, that will mean nothing in main EvE languages (even if parsed into parts, so the word "Iansucks***" will not qualify because of "sucks" and stars )

We can also ask CSM to qualify the name plus the event can be done every month, not every week.

The whole idea is to give ppl more reason to go into action. Also to let them leave the foot print in the universe, not only in its history.

I would rather have consistently named systems than custom names that change constantly.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

All of these system names already mean things to the people who live (or used to live) in them. To the people who fought in them, who lost a laughable amount of titans in them.

Why do you want to erase our history, just so we can name a system 'OPSUX' or 'BUTTES'?

This for starters.

That and some systems are just known. Be some confused fleet coordination with newbs not knowing the old names if this used to the point the old systems official name not know to them.

Be some messed up coordination as the new people say we are in system Larry in comms.

Vets:Okay...wtf is the larry system?

Noobs: Duh...its right by torrinos.

Vets: Oh, you mean EC-...

Noobs:Yeah whatever, we got targets how fast can you be here?

Vets: be a few moments, leaving EWok now.

Wtf is Ew0k says the noobs?

Vets: our bad you will know this as Seymore Butts.

This the issue I'd have. Ew0k interesting system since an interesting area. It be a shame to have a bunch of tards being edgy give it a stupid name.

No. No, no a thousand times no. You want to name something, plop down an outpost* and put your name on that.

*At least until they turn that off in December. Then you'll have to settle for a citadel.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno

I like the random numbers and letters in the names of the nullsec systems, as it adds to the mystery, and to the general idea of how absolute barren and desolate these systems are of non-capsuleer traffic.

There is already a system called OhSh!t in Curse, only one jump from Lucasgate. Easiest way to get there and pay a visit would be to travel from Dragorin to Draciste, then proceed to (but steer clear of) Ouchbubble Central.

When you reach Ruddger's Salt Peak you've traveled too far.

...still a big fat NOPE for the proposition though ;-)

I think having consistent system names is important for basic navigation and discussion.

A better system would be to allow nicknames for systems.

0.0 sov space: sov holder sets global nickname.
all other space: system nicknames are internal to your alliance/corporation/self (highest level entity takes priority)

Nickname is togglable as a display element/searchable on maps and other ingame things (think of it like how fitting works for ships)

Thus, you could elect to display nickname>system name>region>constellation ot just System>region>constellation

I agree with keeping the existing system names.

If any null-sec systems get renamed, it should be in CCP's total control and only after something really significant happened. For example, I remember there was some discussion about renaming BR5 to something like Titan's End after the battle.

I agree that the systems should be named something that can actually be considered coherent words. However i don't want to give that power to the players as its already been pointed out we will end up with some really mest up system names. Why just let CCP name all the systems over times varying on there history? major battles/events that occured there. major characters that toke part in events in those system and such as.
