Better abstract map layout

I really like the layout of DOTLAN. It's easy to use. You immediately see where you are, and what's nearby - and further away. You don't have to use time trying to hit that tiny little white dot in order to get information or do a simple thing like setting desti. Everything is neatly ordered into comprehensible units, and the region overview is fantastic.

I really want a more DOTLAN-esque abstract layout for the in-game map; one where each system isn't just a tiny little white dot that is nigh impossible to hit with the mouse cursor, or worse, gets too close to another system so it's hidden behind it and impossible to click.

I'm sure I wouldn't miss DOTLAN if similar usability were put into the regular map. It was just so much easier to see which systems were pipes, and which were dead ends, and thus so much easier to use for planning your routes and destinations.

I don't mean to be a downer, but you don't actually have a problem, so nothing needs to be fixed. You explained it yourself (weren't you listening?). You have dot-lan that gives you everything you need in a layout that you like. There is no need to change the map layout (which in 3D mode does have uses). If there is even just one guy out there (me for instance) that finds the current map useful or even just visually pleasing AND (key part here) AND you have dot-lan which makes you happy, then there is no need to change the in game map to be an exact copy of something you already like and have free access to.

If you really want a more dot-lan-esque map (someone drum roll for me please).................... go to dot-lan.

You're really not making any sense at all with this proposed change.

I don't know if you noticed, but the in-game browser is now gone. So yeah, while I can "look" at DOTLAN out-of-game, and oogle at it until my eyes start to tear up, it does nothing for me in-game - where I need it. Instead the process is now painfully typing the destination I'd like in the search field of the in-game map after finding it - with ease, I might add - in DOTLAN, hoping I type it correctly in-game (if I didn't just copy it, which is easier said than done from DOTLAN), and then set desti if I got it right. It's a very painful experience, and while I am considering seeking professional help about the psychological pains it is giving me, I figured it would just be so much more helpful - not just to me, but also to others in my own situation - that I'd rather write a post about it here on this forum, possibly inspiring someone to make this much-needed add-on to the in-game map.
