Hey! What is a good tool to check what modules and skills I should go for? One thing I want is the most optimal build on my Hulk for mining.. I just re-subscribed yesterday after not playing since 2012!

I haven't used o.smium myself but I linked it so that you could check it out. EFT I've used for years and of course eveuni is just a good place to start when looking for any eve info.

Worth mentioning is that if you are mining in high sec ganking is probably bigger now than it was when you left the game. If you fit for max yield and are flying a hulk you will most likely loose it to gankers.

Also I have not mined in years but my understanding is that the Hulk is now only good if you are in fleet with dedicated haulers. If you are solo mining in high sec you are probably going to be much better of with a T1 barge that has a decent orehold. The Procurer is what a lot of people fly for a decent compromise between orehold and tank.

Of course you might be better off flying something with a huge orehold capacity and fitting for max yield and just writing off the occasional loss as a cost of doing business.

Regardless of which direction you go I would not fly a T2 barge in high sec and certainly not a hulk. The hulk has kind of become a holy grail trophy to gankers.

^^ Pretty much this, the Hulk is a target on your back.

I'd go with a T1 barge until you familiarise yourself with game changes and the current environment.

A Retriever is fairly cheap, has a large ore hold and decent mining specs if you're willing to write off ship losses as a cost of mining, it'll pay for itself fairly rapidly. A Procurer has a smaller ore hold but can pack some serious tank, they don't die nearly as often as Retrievers (or the T2 exhumers) and also pay for themselves rapidly.

Above all never AFK mine; despite mechanics changes suicide ganking is still a thing in hisec, and the guys that do it have been forced to become very good at it.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

You can't have an optimal fit until you first decide what you want to optimize. What is it that you want most?

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!

Among the Exhumers, Hulk is best suited for fleet mining where you have dedicated haulers to handle the ore. Mackinaw has an enormous ore hold but is attractive to gankers - high value and relatively easy to kill. Skiff can fit a battleship tank and is the most agile but has a fairly small ore hold.

T1 barges give you 80% of the capability at 20% of the cost. A couple hours mining will pay for one - less if you insure it. If you get ganked there shouldn't be any tears!
