I've never played EVE before and this is my first time, I'm a little overwhelmed so I'm just taking it slowly and one step at a time, some people told me after I do the career agents I should do some of the agents missions to get some isk and get some experience but how do I get higher level missions like level 3 4 or 5 do I have to persist with a specific corp or faction to get a higher rating and then do they give me higher missions? I'm a little puzzled any help is much appreciated

It's your standing with an agent, his corp and his faction that unlock whether or not he will talk to you. High level mission agents will want higher standings ; once you have those, they'll be kind and give you the homeworks you're asking for.

It goes as this :
1st level : no standing required
2nd level : need 1.0 standing
3rd level : need 3.0 standing
4th level : need 5.0 standing
5th level : don't know, but i'm guessing you need 7.0

5th level missions are typically in lowsec, so MUCH more dangerous. Don't go there until you know what you're doing.

This standing you need is either agent standing, corp standing or faction standing. The easiest one to get is corp standing, by doing missions for lower level agents of the same corp.
Keep in mind this standing is also affected by your rank in the Connection skill.

The above message presents my opinions on the topic at hand. If there is a conflict between my views and reality, consider reality to be correct until proven otherwise.

Does the amount of ISK gained from lowsec missions differ to the ones in high sec? Will you get more if you did a level 1 missions in low sec rather than in high sec?

Yes - the best way to get lvl 2 and higher, agent missions you need first make some lvl 1 missions to get "standing".

Agent Level Minimum Standing
1 -10
2 1
3 3
4 5
5 7

This is how it looks about lvl of mission compare to standing you have to agent.

But be carefull- higher lvl`s need better ship and skills.

If you are able to take 2 security missions lvl 1 in the same station - take it... Standing will go up faster and you get chance to start lvl 2 missions faster... Make everything to get lvl 3 missions as fast as you can... :)

Yes amount of ISK is higher - you fight low sector rats, with higher bounty on them... Lvl 5 i think (never did) will be already Dreads, Battleships and something like that...

So maybe I should start in high sec but level 1 and 2's because I only have a frigate. One more thing, I am with the Caldari should I use hybrid turrets or missiles ? What would be better for PVP and PVE?

As a forewarning I have been away from game for a while so might have missed some changes, but at the last time I played seriously the following was all true.

The rewards for ISK/LP are greater the lower the security level. This is why 0.5 systems which don't boarder lowsec are popular for mission runners. You can also train the Negotiations Skill to up the basic pay of agents. Once you go to 0.4 or lower space (LowSec, NullSec) there are no NPC police to protect you any more so these are open PvP zones where players can (and will) shoot you just because they can.

If you're looking to get ahead with mission levels a little faster look at training the Connections Skill as it will boost your standings and grant you access to agents faster.

Be aware that each level of missions does have a base ship size in mind when running them. There are some ships (such as Tech 3 Cruisers) which can run multiple levels but you should try to aim to use the ships below with good support skills (weapons, tank, capacitor etc.)

L1 - Frigates / Destroyers
L2 - Destroyers / Cruisers
L3 - Battlecruisers
L4 - Battleships
L5 - Groups/Capital Ships/Niche Tactics

The base Social Skill which is required for the two I mentioned above also improves the standings you gain from each mission, this will speed up your progression through access as well.

You should also make sure the Corporation you're running missions for has agents of all levels available in the field you want (security, courier, mining) as you don't want to grind to level 4 access only to find all the agents are in LowSec space.

Every 16 missions of the same level you will also get a "story mission" offer from an NPC. These mission will increase you Faction standings for the faction you're working for (note not all factions offer this) having a high faction standing will grant access to all agents under that faction. eg a Caldari Faction Standing of 5.0 will let you use all Caldari Agents in the game.
Be aware however that as your faction standings go up for one faction they will go down for another, should you ever reach -5.0 or lower with a faction you will be KOS (Kill On Sight) to the NPC police in that factions star systems.

There is a lot more information here on the EVE Uni wiki which will help you: http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Missions

But don't go nuts with them. (Level III is fine) It's just an entry point to EVE. Some player stick to them and others go for Wormholes, Nullsec Alliances, Trading, Hauling or whatever and never to a missoin again.

The career agent missions should have given you enough standing to get level 2 missions. These typically require a cruiser to run comfortably.

I recommend that you run the SOE Epic Arc http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/The_Blood-Stained_Stars which will get you considerable experience, and a reasonable amount of cash. It will also give you a decent standings boost with the faction of your choice - getting you fairly close to the 3.0 standings required for level 3 missions.

Missiles vs hybrid weapons is a personal choice. In the long run you will train both and they both work.
Missiles: always hit their target if you are in range; have selectable damage type so you can exploit an enemy weakness; tend to have longer range than turret weapons; do not require capacitor; take time to reach there targets; may not apply full damage depending on explosion radius and explosion velocity; ammo is more expensive and bulky http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Missile_Launchers
Hybrid weapons: fixed damage profile; can miss depending on tracking speed; hits are instant; capacitor is required. http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Turrets

Yes, but most of the ISK made in missions is from converting Loyalty Points to items to sell. Most people blitz missions and will only kill the ships that are required to progress or end the mission.

When you're ready to commit to a specific corp, you should look at what each one makes in LP and if they make something specific you would like to sell.

A clarification on this. It would be better to state this as "agent OR his corp OR his faction".
Think of these as a tier structure with faction at the top and agent at the bottom. To clarify this even further I will use level 4 agents as my example.
If your access is based on faction standings then you have access to all level 4 agents from all divisions and for all of the NPC corp in that faction.

If your access is based on NPC corp standings you will have access to all level 4 agents from all divisions for that NPC corp.

If your access is based on agent standing then you will only have access to that one single agent.

Another standing note. While it is possible to have access based on agent standing only, tby time you have access based on agent standing you usually have access based on NPC Corp standing as well.

Level 5 missions are not "typically" located in low sec, they are "only" found in low sec. Back in my nul sec days I did not see level 5 agents there and a quick look at eve-agents does not show any for nul but they may exist anyone from nul have feed backl on that?

Some other useful information for new players.
Dot Lan is an excellent map and data source for players. they give all manor if information like kills in the last 24 hours etc.

EvE Sruvival is a bible of sorts for mission runners, it gives you basic information on all of the missions in the game. Just be careful here the information is updated by players and there are some inaccuracies that can cause trouble. One of them that catches some players is mercenaries, EvE survival almost universally recommends tanking for thermal damage when running against mercenaries and that can be trouble since mercs are often found in combination with other NPC. Sites like this one NPC damage types that give you the specific breakdown of damage done by the various NPC is good to have and I found it especially useful for merc missions to better understand how to set up my tank.

EvE agents will help you find agents in your area or in an area where you want to move to.

Last thoughts. Finding a vet player or a group of new / newer players to run missions with can be very helpful especially helpful.

Some might disagree, but I would personally train into a jackdaw, if you like Caldari. You can do up to level 3 missions easily in one, and it's much more versatile. It can be used in PvE, PvP, combat exploration, etc.

I'd go for a jackdaw, then a raven, then tengu or golem for mission running. If you have the skills to fly a jackdaw and a tengu well, it will open a lot of doors in the game.

Caldari are lucky in PVE as they have the best application of damage out of all weapon systems by specializing in Missiles. No cap needed, Friend or Foe Missiles/drones for pirates that jam you, and the biggest advantage is the selection of damage types.

You can tell what type of damage missiles do by looking at the SHOW INFO > Attributes Tab > Scroll to bottom and look at the different damage types.

Level 1: Frigate
Level 2: Cruiser
Level 3: Battlecruiser
Level 4: Battleship
Level 5: Carrier or fleet of battleships with logi.

The above links might help some. Since they effectively removed agent quality from the game a few years back I think that the only things which affects mission payouts ( outside of skill points and mission level ) is the sec status of the system and your standing with the agent or his corp or faction ( I am not sure which, it might be the highest one figures in ).

Bill Aralia wrote:

This game is not like other MMOs. There are no for sure "shoulds" in this game. Everything is situational. Missiles are a perfect example, you can find people that think that missiles suck for PvP. Yet you often see fleets of missile boats out on roams spreading pain and agony across the universe, and you can also find people that will tell you missiles are great for PvP.

Also in Eve you can train any faction's ships you are not stuck with Caldari. Most of the skills that effect your ship are common amongst all ships. The racial specific skills can be trained up to level 3 pretty quickly. IMHO it's worth spreading skill points around amongst the factions especially early on and in frigates. You are probably better off having options with regards to damage output and tank type than being hyper focused.

Also one way to get rep faster is to find a station with many lvl 1 agents (security), and then take all the missions from each agent and go at it, but word of advice do not take missions involving attacking any of the major factions otherwise you could damage your rep with them, then you wouldn't be able to enter their territory without being attacked by their navy, if your rep falls train diplomatic relations as this improves your standings when you damage them.

Haha.. to late for me. Did a ton of security missons in Rens and now the Amarr and Caldari hate me with a passion.
