Question About Ship Skins

Hello,

I was looking at some of the skins for ships. But when trying to obtain them, there are none to be found. Though there are some skins on the market (for a huge sum of ISK) and others which can be purchased for Aurum (aka. real life money). Some of the skins I'm interested are neither on the market, nor can they be purchased from Aurum. How does one aquire ship skins?

I was rather hoping that they could be acquired through the Loyalty Point's system. Afterall it would make sense that NPC corporations would only allow you to wear their 'colours' only after having done a lot of missions for them. But in all the loyalty point stores I've seen so far, I haven't found any skins.

Is there any in-game method for acquiring skins, or is it necessary to pay money for this stuff?

If you want something specific and it's not for sale on the market anywhere then yes, you need to buy it. Recent events have rewarded certain skins, but the vast majority come via Aurum purchases > Market.

Free. Lol.

Pretty much buy with RL money for AR, buying off the market in ISK is a rip off, don't bother those people are looking for those who can't wait to get them.

Some skins are given as rewards for special event missions, such as the recent Purity of the Throne event. There's a Blood Raider event scheduled for the Halloween period which will, I believe, drop skins for that faction. If you do these missions, you get those skins for free.

Once the events end, the skins will only be available from the market. Some stay cheap, most can't be replaced and get more expensive as time goes by.

Most skins are however, sold by CCP for real money on the Aurum store.

PLEX can be converted to Aurum 1 PLEX=3500 Aurum https://support.eveonline.com/hc/en-us/articles/203523752-Aurum and ISK can be converted to PLEX at whatever the current market rate happens to be so you can buy most skins directly from CCP using ISK earned in game.

Market pricing is player controlled and based on supply and demand. You will generally pay a small markup for open stock skins on the market but limited issue stuff can be very expensive - it's worth whatever the highest bidder is willing to pay.

Well that's disappointing. This means that skins which are not currently being sold by CCP cannot be equipped. Though, even if they were I still don't like the idea of buying in game content with real money.

Would have liked an in game method for getting these CCP. Because, the skins don't really say anything about the character - other than what their favourite colours are. If you got the skins while doing missions for certain NPC corps, or by fostering certain allegiances with pirate corps or factions corps, that might have been really cool. seems like wasted game potential.

CCP have provided an in game method for trading skins - they can be listed on the market. Players buy them from CCP - generally paying with PLEX earned in game and then list them for sale on the market. These players expect to profit by offering you the convenience of an in game transaction.

CCP is a business and the developers expect to get paid in real world money so vanity items like skins and clothing are sold for real world money, as are PLEX. People who buy PLEX from CCP and sell it in game for ISK make it possible for us to buy the other stuff with ISK.

I feel like a lot of games do this, though. I mean look at all the MOBAs out there like league of legends with their piles and piles of skins. But it's specifically because they don't affect gameplay in any way that they are a great item to have available for real world money. As a player, I would be very upset if someone could basically "pay to win" by buying exclusive items with real money. Skins add a personal touch and some people value that enough to consider it worth IRL money. In the end, I think it balances out to be pretty fair.

... and they are. It's called a subscription. I have no problem with subscriptions because it is paying to operate the servers, databases, and technical support. What I do have a problem with is paying for "vanity items" which have no real world cost, with real money.

So yea, I'll probably just do without.

I'm fine with paying money for vanity items. Id rather have that, than have people paying money to win ship battles.

And no, none of the ship skins requires real money to purchase. As someone stated above, you can purchase plex with in-game money, and use that to convert to aurum, and use that to purchase the skin in the store.

You wouldn't have to pay a penny, just your in-game isk.
