Here's a weird one for you guys, I never noticed this before today so i'm a bit puzzled. Figured i would post it here since its a Q&A forum, even though i'm pretty far from new.

On account 1 i have 3 toons (Obviously)

My Main whom im posting from has several million SP and has existed since early 2012. I have never used dual training and have only taken a few breaks resulting in train time lapses, plus one week where i trained toon B, Coming up next.

Toon B Has existed since early 2014 as a bare-bones neutral hauler after i disposed of an old alt whom i no longer needed. He has exactly 83,109 SP and has trained only a few skills in his lifetime including basic PI skills, and the ability to fit cargo expanders to a Tayra and fly the Tayra. Hes never been trained since 2014 as I've been focusing on my main like most people.

Toon C however i created 7 days ago to watch a system for me from station and who has trained nothing ever has 399,718 SP and has the sole accomplishment of opening a menu and getting 100k for it because of opportunities.

My question is this, why is it that clones these days that are freshly created have drastically higher base SP than other clones created some time ago? there must be something i'm missing given their skill trees seem identical, save for Toon B having industrial skills, fitting skills, and PI skills.

If it matters all 3 are Caldari, and i know my main started with less than 300k SP as well.
Puzzled like i mentioned.

Because the starting skills for new characters was increased at some point.

Why? Somethingsomethingsomething.... new characters/players needed more skillpoints so they could "dive in" somethingsomethingsomething.

Starting character SP points have changed multiple times. During Revelations, when I started playing, you started with around 700k SP, which wasn't the case 3-4 years earlier when the game was new (I think you started with 5000 SP at launch?). This was then reduced to new 50 000 SP but 100% faster skill training starts together with the learning skill removal, and then they axed that and created these new 400k starts.

We had a big discussion about what we felt we needed new players to have to be a bit more useful "out of the box" so to speak.
The result is this disparity, CCP gave new characters most of the skills we suggested, there was a rash of maaaad funny whinge posts from people whom had just created characters over it.

CCP changes their minds about the amount of skillpoints new characters start with. It's been 50k, 900k, 400k, and various in-between values over the years. They're trying different things, and offering different promotions, to try to get new players to join the game.

To answer your next question, why don't they reimburse existing characters, they never answered that, but:

1. Feel free to delete and start a new character with 400k.
2. It's only a few hundred k, a few days of training at most.
3. You've got your usefulness out of the Tayra character as it did its job all this time.
4. CCP only cares about new players having a "better" experience, they don't care what you do with your alts.

If i'm not totally senile, i remember once creating a character and having like 500k SP to allow. But i had the choice in the skills. In the other hand, we had to train the learning skills too Roll. And i wonder if it was when each "race" had its own starting skills... Was it this char (2009) or the one before ? I'm totally confused about that Big smile

Yeah, when I started you got around 500k out of the box, and which skills you got was pretty heavily influenced by the choices you made during character creation.
