How to tell if a citadel is hostile or friendly?

So I'm in low sec and spot an Astrahus on d-scan at 13AU, but it's not on my overview. Does it mean the citadel will blap me? Will all friendly citadels appear on overview, no matter their distance?

If you don't have permissions, it won't appear on the overview. They will still appear in space with the blue structure brackets, though.

That said, citadels do not automatically attack. Someone has to actually man the guns.

Generally speaking I tend to think of anything actively trying to kill me as hostile
And everything else as neutral

Citadel's on your overview are either public or have you or your Corp white listed.
Citadel's not showing are private but not necessarily hostile.
In highsec they're only hostile if both manned and owned by an Corp with a live war against your Corp/alliance.

There is a tiny little edge case ... the Citadel can be on your overview, and even named "freeport" or something similar as another citadel nearby and still be hostile. This happens if the citadel is on grid with you. A couple of those are present in lowsec located near gates.

I'm my own NPC alt.

warp in cloaked, right click - show info and you will see who owns it, if they are flagged red or you are likely red to them...best avoided.
