When I ransom, my terms are typically negotiable. No profit in podding someone, so it becomes more an issue of how much isk I want vs how much I want your corpse (gotta collect them all!). This is hardly unusual or new.

you know you would get more money if you go into real piracy.... meaning badger 500 000 full of trit 3 mill you random for like 1 mill..... 33%.... max and if you gain rep that way people will acutaly pay....

Other problem is ceaping in terms with it your entier corp/whatever.....

i dont pay randsoms... unles im stupid and have +5 +6% Bear then i act carebear dum and basicly conversation would go like this....

For Heretic Army, negotiating ransoms has resulted in far more success.

Ransoming is an art.

Checking the targeted pilots age and recent pod lossmails will give you an idea of what to initially demand. If they say no to the first demand, why not lower your price and try again instead of just killing him? For instance, we recently ransomed a pod for an initial 500mil. The pilot said no, so we asked what he'd be willing to pay to save his pod. He offered 200mil, we accepted and let him move along. If we had killed him after the first no, we wouldn't have made 200mil.

Negotiating seems to be a better way of doing things. What you think a hefty ransom is may be pocket change to the person you are ransoming.

You should be asking for less than the price of the victims new clone. The incentive to paying a ransom is that it is less than the cost of the new clone, not the other way around. Otherwise the victim has no reason to pay the ransom and would rather get podded instead of paying and have to slow boat their pod back to safety.

wat i cant believe is that he tried to randsom u on a gate. wat fail. i would have just podded u. doin a randsom on a gate or station just gives them time to get away.
randsoms are only given is belts, sites and if the pod is far away from the gate webbed to **** and has no chance to get to the gate.
not that i randsom any way. seems like a pointless thing to do i just want ur corpse and pod mail hoping u had a slave set that cost u over a bill. more tears that way.
the added bonus is that i can contract ur copse back to u for the lawl factor.

First of all, C&P is -----> that way.

Second, it's more common practice to negotiate a ransom from what I've seen.

Think the only thing wrong was the demand and the threat. If your demand is not met then carry out the threat immediately.

He should've tried negotiation before threatening action, just made him look weak.

Only been ransomed once. Didn't pay as I was able to delay long enough for friends to come and kill them all. We didn't offer any ransoms as we're not pirates and only wanted the KM's anyway. Twisted

Got popped in .3 a couple years ago, and the do-er demanded something like 120mil or he'd pod me. Sorry, go ahead and shoot, I replied, to which he counter-offered about 70 mil, then down to like 20 mil. I suggested he just pod me and move on to the next target; after a few minutes he basically killed the point and left, saying his CEO demanded ransoms and he was already short for the day. I felt bad, so I gave him 10 mil as I warped off. :)

Also, just got wardec'd by this kid and his alts (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=396079#post396079), demanding:

I laughed, saying I'd meet him in Jita, but I knew he was only one system away and nowhere near Jita. Next morning my *small* POS was under attack, and he sends a ransom demand for 75mil. I basically told him to drop me a line so I could watch the light show, and that I'd bring the popcorn. Cool I was just about finished tearing everything down for a re-location, so I thought I'd leave the little kid a killmail for his mommy to be proud of. P
