Hi.

Just started my trail 5 days ago, and loving the game so far. Ive been doing some ratting and anomalies (green lines in scanner) in hisec to make some isk and look around. Doing missions isnt my thing.

Yesterday i got a pop up message leading me to something called Guristas Scout Outpost.

I currently fly a kestrel, but have skills to fly a caracal or just a few minutes from a drake. Although so far the drake seems too expensive for me to afford before the timer runs out in 15 hours. The caraca might be too expensive too...

My question is; will i be able to do that site with so low skills? And if 'yes' what should my fitting and strategh be with a caracal?

Thanks.

Your ability to do or not do this site with a ship depends on so many factors such as your ability to understand the evolving situation, your actual skills (Saying 5 days doesn't tell us much about what you've trained in those 5 days, but based on the fact you're almost in a Drake you've probably only been training Ship command as opposed to Missiles/Shields, which are far more important than ships themselves.) That said, there is a wealth of information available to you on the net.

Here is the link to the EVE University Wiki page that has all the information on that site. What to expect, how the spawns play out, etc.

Best of luck and welcome to EVE!

There are videos of this site https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmerXg5qH-E. A DED 4/10 is likely beyond the capability of a 5 day old character. A bigger ship won't help. What can help is an experienced friend/corpmate you can fleet with who can run the site while you watch from a safe distance and share the bounties/loot

High sec "ratting" (just shooting reds without missoins) is not much ISK. I am two month into the game now and I just got my first drake (I only fly ships worth 1/10 of my total ISK so I don't have to worry to much about loosing them.) But I made the ISK for my ratting/missons ships with trading/hauling/relics and WH gas. If I would start from scratch again I would just ask misson 4 runners or an incursion fleets if it is OK to them if I just salvage what they leave behind. All you need is the location of the wrecks, easiest way to get that is to be in fleet and warp out once fighting is over. That are some very, very easy made starter millions.

On a trail account I would train some basic skills to III and stick to the Caracal. (As it will be free to fly for Alpha clones and a good ship even if you make a sub and play for longer. If you plex or sub train all those skills to IV.

Caldari Cruiser IV
Missile Launcher Operation III
Light Missiles III
Rapid Launch III
Target Navigation Prediction III
Power Grid Management III
Shield Operation III
Tactical Shield Manipulation III
Shield Management III
CPU Management IV
Gravimetric Sensor Compensation III
Long Range Targeting III
Signature Analysis III
Target Management III
Target Painting III
Capacitor Management III
Weapon Upgrades III
Navigation III
Afterburner III
Evasive Maneuvering III

All together A week of training without implants or remap.

Two more things...

If i do try to get it done myself';

is it usually best with burst boosting or continous boosting? ( i assume passive is out of the question for a site like that).

And when kiting the rats... afterburner or microwarpdrive?

Thanks

As others have said, it is probably too hard for you to solo with 5 days of skills. That said, you should definitely give it a shot. Escalations like this are one of the most interesting parts of EVE PVE and they're relatively uncommon, so it would be a shame not to at least check it out.

With what you have available, I'd say fly a Caracal with Rapid Light Missile Launchers, an Afterburner/MWD, and as many shield mods as you can fit.

What you should definitely do though, again as others have said, is get a friend. I assume it's in High Sec, where I'm Persona Non Grata, or I'd offer to come help. But ask around. There are some exploration and mission help chat channels where you could certainly find someone interested in helping for a share of the loot.

If it comes to it, you can even ask in local. This sounds risky, being as everyone in EVE is a heartless pirate, but people are usually pretty excited to help new players out by shooting some red crosses. I asked for PVE help in local a few times when I was brand new, and it always worked out. Just say something like "Can anybody help me with an exploration site? I'm new."

EDIT: To answer your new questions, I would probably go with shield extenders and an afterburner. You're right that you're not going to be able to get a strong enough passive tank going with your skills but, if you're planning to warp in and out anyways, buffer gives you more margin for error and also means you aren't dependent on your capacitor. As for propulsion, MWD is probably overkill. The only reason I would run it is if there were warp disrupting frigates, which I think usually don't appear at this level?

EDIT EDIT: Oh, and if you do manage to complete it, make sure you blow up the buildings in the final pocket. A lot of times in these kinds of sites one of the building contains good loot. If you read the flavour text that appears in local, you will often get a hint as to which one.

With such light skills Active Tank + Speed Kiting with Burner/MWD are going to be counter-intuitive. At your level, go for speed bursts, buffer tank kiting and hope for the best. Worst case you're out a Kestrel, and if that happens, EVEmail me and I'll replace the loss value, so you're not afraid to take the gamble and give it a go.

Missions may not be your thing and that is OK. But you still need to run the tutorial missions and the epic arcs.
1. because exposure to many of the things that are in the game some of them you may not be aware of now.
2. because ships, fitting pieces, skill books, ISK and other stuff.
3. these mission are designed to introduce you to some of the concepts of the game.

Thanks again for advice and help.

I gave it a go in a Corax, and managed to take down frigs in the first room, and scoop the loot there, but cruisers were too hard. Aligned too slow, and lost both ship and loot...

anyways; it was fun trying.

If it makes you feel better, I have the exact same story - except it was a Thrasher and a Serpentis 3/10 Smile

Fair play for giving it a go, that's not an easy site by any means in a small ship; the elite frigates alone are enough to beat the crap out of a Corax.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
