I think the best solution would be to introduce something like a skillbook one could train that would increase your attributes by 1 point each.

That way, knobbhhs could train quicker.

While I want this to happen when you consider all of the factors involved a single patch removal will never work.
To get them out of the game will require a reduction in their drop rates over time until they are gone from the loot tables etc.
To keep things reasonably balanced they will have to reduce the affect these things have over time as well so that they become useless at the same time the drop rate hits zero. If they had started this process back when the whole idea was first floated out into the internet land they would be gone already.

The problem of learning implants is on of reimbursement. Players won't be happy losing things they spent a lot of ISK on to an update. Lowering the drop rates won't work because that just pushes the price up. There will be players who still buy them at those increased price and still have them when the patch hits.

Giving players the ISK value of the implants they own on patch day will be injecting a lot of ISK into the Eve economy. That will cause a lot of disruption. Question is if that disruption would be a bad thing or not. A question I can't answer. Yes, printing money like that would cause an inflationary spike, and the effects of a large inflationary spike would be bad for a countries economy. But what is bad for a real life country isn't necessarily a bad thing for an MMO.


The other option is to compensate players with skillpoints. Skillpoint injectors allow CCP to calculate the ISK value of a single skillpoint. Thus CCP could give players an amount of skillpoints worth the same amount of ISK as the implants they lost. This approach does have two questions CCP will need to answer though:
- Who gets the skillpoints when the implants are located in something owned by a corp ?
- What happens with pirate implants. They will remain in-game because of their non-attribute effects. Do they get any reimbursement ?

The alpha clones are an introductory clone to allow players to gain limited experience in the game, find they like it and become subbed for life. At least that's what I think they are supposed to be fore. If my thinking is correct, then I'm all for not dumping much of any dev time/effort into improving or tweaking them.

I see alpha clones like an entry level set of golf clubs or maybe a low end paintball gun. You fiddle around with them a bit and decide if golf / paintball is where you want to sink some serious assets into the experience.

TL/DR - If you want to experience full game functionality - sub to the game. (You can get a month of Eve for far less than you will pay for a month of golf / paintball) Be happy with the gift CCP has provided. (try to go to the movies every night for a month with the RL money a subscription costs) (or go out clubbing every night for a month - see what that adds up to) (if you like the game stop being a cheap bastard and get a subscription)

I know, the irony isn't lost in here. And I just admit it because as of 15 hours ago I became 10 EVE years today.

I'm not asking for a $5 sub like the OP wants. I don't see where you got that impression. Maybe $15/month is nothing to you, but some people are on a very strict budget and/or don't have the time to grind out a plex.

At current prices I could easily stay plexxed just by grinding incursions every other weekend. My point isn't about wanting to play for free, more so that players that do pay, but not all the time should have some kind of incentive to do so.

I'd also like to once again point out the isuue of the imbalance between races for alpha clones with the jovian ships.

I don't mean this to come across as me being an a**hole, but a year's subscription is $10/mo. You said you don't have much time. Fine. Let's play it conservative and say you only play five hours/week (which is EXTREMELY conservative). That's 20 hours/month, or $0.50 per hour. If 50 cents per hour is too expensive for you for entertainment, you have no business playing video games.

If you can't afford $10/mo for something that gives you the entertainment that EVE does, turn off the computer and work on finding a better job.
