I am new to the game and so far have ran a few missions, i am tending to favour missiles as my preferred damage applicator simply for their range, I have also read that angel npc's tend to drop the better loot out of the npc's (is that correct?) With regard to angel npc's do i specifically need to apply explosive damage or would i get away with applying kinetic too the reason i ask this is because i lke the caldari ships and they seem to bonus kinetic missiles more than others......

anyway i am in low sec surrounded by angel npc's itching for a fight i'd like to survive more than 1 volley :)

total noob here so what i have put above may well be 100% wrong, please advise

There are sites out there where you can see the resistance of specific NPCs if you enter the name of that NPC. I believe there is somewhere that you can look up the averages but I could not find it to link to you.

Resists can matter a lot. With you being a newer character and having lowish dps to begin with putting yourself further in the hole would not be advisable. Often the difference between resists can be more than the bonus you get to Kinetic even at the full level 5 bonus. So the short answer is yes damage type matters a lot.

I looked at one Angel ship type on this page and Noticed a 10% difference between explosive and Kinetic and 20 % to thermal and 30% to EM. Can't say it's across the board like that but it seems to be fairly common.

Also make sure that you have your own resists set up accordingly also. Unless you plan on the potential of PvP then you might want to omni tank and any looking to PvP against PvEer in angel space will likely be dealing a damage type other than explosive since they will assume that is what you are set up to tank.

Every NPC, aside from "special" ones, has a primary and secondary weakness to certain damage types.

The short version is this:

Almost all NPCs have Thermal damage as their primary or secondary weakness.

Angel NPCs are the exception... being weak against Explosive (primary) and Kinetic (secondary) damage.

Insursion Sansha ships, Difters, and Sleepers all have omni-resistances... meaning that they have no damage weakness.

Angel Cartel are vulnerable to Explosive/Kinetic so yes - you can bring your Drake! Caldari native shield resistances are maximum for explosive/kinetic which make them a good choice against Angel Cartel http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Drake
