Market History window

Hello guys!

I have some questions about the market history data.

First average price:

What does this price represent? Is the arithmetic mean? the median? or the moda?

Second, the low and high prices:

So, why if I buy a very overpriced item it doesn't appear on the market history data? i.e. if I buy a single Tritanium Ore for 1M, it will not show on the history... so, I gues there is some filtering on this?
How many Tritanium ores should I buy for 1M to make it show on the history tab?

Thanks!

I know that this does not directly answer your questions but it might help to know that when you buy an item for more than the lowest available sell order, the person with the lowest available sell order still gets the order.

For example:
Player A is selling Trit for 7 isk each at the station in which you are docked. Player B is selling one unit of trit for 1 million isk. If you try to buy the one unit of trit from player B for one Million, what happens is player A gets 1 Million isk for one unit of Trit and player B's Trit is still up for sale at 1 Million.

Or at least that is how it was explained to me many years ago. I believe that I have tested this for accuracy as well but it's been years.

But even if that was true, the record should be that the highest price is 1M... The question is not if I buy an overpriced item it will sell from one order or another, but how many items have to sell for a given overprice to show on the low/high prices

Average should be the mean, but it is a regional average and not specific to that station or hub. The mean also reflects very common price manipulation and should be treated with a large grain of salt. You definitely want to compare the price to volume both daily, and an ongoing basis.

Prices in the market window are delayed, just like bounties. Although, I'm not sure how long the delay is. It is there to reduce server lag. Buying one item will make it show up on the graph, it just takes a while for it to show up.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

Averages are often filtered using a "3 sigma rule" that discards outliers more than 3 standard deviations from the mean.

You can also set up filters to eliminate the outliers.

In any case, you're going to get partial answers with little tidbits of information, because you're in the Newbies Q/A forum, and most of us who answer aren't market experts.

You can wait for us to eventually reveal sufficient tidbits to fully answer your questions, or you can post your question in the Market sub-forums, where the experts are.

Thanks for those replies. Is there an official information about the way that these things work? Or ccp doesnt share them because is part of the game to find out?

Well, I would like to post on that forum, but I cant, I guess it es because im trial.

CCP doesn't post anything. What little they had in the tutorial text pages and in their official encyclopedia, they removed (the whole tutorial and encyclopedia). The information may be out there on player-created guides and websites, but from what I've seen most of the market ones are focused on profit and tax calculations, not on predicting or dealing with the specifics of the history screens. Because no AI or code can predict what the market will do.

By the way, there have been screenshots posted from the SiSi test server showing that CCP is changing the history window. It's unclear at this point whether it's just a change from the red/green color scheme to the orange/teal one (they may be trying to copy Hollywood and have more *pop* in their game screens), or if the formulas that you're looking for are changing too.

If I'm understanding you you are trying to know what the true value of items are, this changes because same as in RL market manipulation by mega corps, changes to requirements by devs, wars, etc, there is a lot to what makes a market tick, if you can understand it you can definitely make yourself one of the monocle elite Big smile

But as with everything in eve it's always PvP so someone will be out to do you in.

Well, I'm not really doing that. What I'm trying to do is to aproximate how much of those quantities every day goes for sell/buy orders, as a % or a quantity.

This page might not answer all your questions but has some good info on the market graphs. Not sure about the outlier question.

Guys, what are the requisites that I should meet to post on the Market Discussions section? I have to be subscribed?

For the time being trial accounts are restricted to New Citizens Q&A. You need to subscribe to post in the other forums. That is expected to change in November. New players will be "Alpha State" rather than "Trial Account" and there will be no time restriction on how long you can play before subscribing. CCP wants to give Alpha State players access to as much of the game as they can without diminishing the value of a subscription (developers still want paychecks). Based on an interview CCP Seagull did a couple of days ago it looks like they will have full access to the forums. http://crossingzebras.com/the-alpha-and-omega-executive-producer-ccp-seagull-interview/

Trial accounts can only post in NC Q&A. Unsubbed accounts ( last that I knew ) could not post at all. I am not sure how things work now with the Alpha accounts.

I once wrote a long forum post only to have it not post and be lost as my account sub ran out as I was writing the post. I resubbed but my text wall was lost. The post that I speak of here was in the NC Q&A iirc ( because that is pretty much the only place that I post ).

So that is my first-hand experience.
