Switch to Windows?

I have a mid-2011 iMac. It runs EVE fine using Cider, but I can't get wine to work at all - it crashes on startup. I'm beginning to think it might be worth switching to the Windows version. I do have Windows 10 running in Parallels, and I could fairly easily reformat my HD to create a Bootcamp partition and install Windows on that. A couple of questions though:

1. Anyone have any experience running the windows version under parallels? Is it worth the effort?
2. In either case, if I switch, I'd like to move certain things - mail history, combat logs, other logs, wallet journal, bookmarks, overview settings, fittings, anything else like that - to the Windows configuration (whichever one I end up with). I *think* all the files I'd need are on the "p" drive somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where, and I'd rather not move files that are part of the client, rather than user data, since part of this is based on the thought that I might have something corrupted in that which is giving Wine grief and might give a native Windows client problems. Any advice?

Note: I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Mac client. The questions in #2 above would be germane, I think. How do I uninstall without losing my user data?

I have a 2 year old 27" iMac running 2.7/2.8ghz.

I tried running Parallels to run Windows. EVE doesn't not run well. I can hardly get the mouse to move anywhere I want due to the insane lag, which I believe is the machine trying to run 2 OS's at the same time as well as EVE. It was so painful I tried once and gave up.

And I doubt you can take your Mac EVE files and move them to use them in the PC world. Could be wrong...

I have since discovered that many of my recent problems with EVE - and other applications - was due to a dying HDD. So I replaced it with an SSD. Now I have to test Wine again, but I'd bet it still doesn't work. We'll see.

AFAIK, the data files I mentioned wanting to move have the same format on both versions of the client. Note that Cider is basically a Windows emulator (as is WINE to at least some extent).

Follow up report: nope, Wine still doesn't work. Crashes on startup, like it always has.

The files I would have moved, near as I can tell, are all text files, so the OS under which they're used shouldn't matter.

I zipped my "p drive" folder and stuck it in a corner. Next step: delete everything EVE related and start over. Maybe tomorrow, it's late.

My experience with Parallels is really bad too, i hardly can do anything.

my solution was to put a bootcamp partition up and install all under win8.1.
you can use all the chats and stuff you want to do, only thin i didnt managed to copy over to win was the personal setup of windows in EVE.

anyhow i just did it again..

hope that helps

my machine is a
MBP early 2011 , 2 GHz i7, AMD HD 6490 256MB and it works quite well

Most files you are looking to move (if you move) should be generic file types.

Overview unless changed is a xml file iirc as an example.

Since about bootcamp moves....quick question for those who have. Can you dual box better? Seems on the mac client you have to put this into potato mode to dual box do get workable framerates. Everything turned off and minimal settings the game gets not so pretty real quick lol.

Can you dual box in windows and still keep some of the prettiness of the game in place? I know its not a wine issue, its apple gimping their stuff. games running better in bootcamp not an unknown trend with the different driver set for that.

CCP Snorlax figured out that an audio plug-in from Razer Synapse was giving me grief. Took it out, and EVE now works with Wine. So I guess I'll stick with that.

It runs better in Wine than in Cider, too. I'm now able to set all the graphics options on high - except one which I lowered to medium to keep GPU temps down.

Dunno about dual boxing.

I am on a mid 15 mbp, top model. Dual boxing with any attempt at framerates that don't suck means at least 1 client will need to drop to 8 bit mode. Everything low if not off. Game will not be as pretty any more, just a heads up. 1 client at medium settings might be passable. Your tastes may not be mine lol. I put the more active client on the good client mid settings and the more passive on on the potato mode client. Example would be mission runner on medium setting, hauler on run on the low setting one.

I tried 2 medium clients and didnt like it. Other mileage may vary as always.
