PvP in eve., the only combat to be had is against NPC's.

Would you still play the game and if so what would you do?

I'd find some way to grief. Like bumping people away from the npcs, or remote repping the NPCs.

You mean like...

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today... Aha-ah...

Nope, I would have gotten borde of it fairly quickly.

I played EQ and WoW for about a year.
I played SWTOR for about 6 months.
CoH 3 months.
Diablo3 for about 2.

They release expansions with new PVE content to try to keep us interested, but after a few it doesn't work anymore.

I've played EVE for about 8 years.
If EVE was pure PVE I'd have been done with it after 3 months.
So the answer to your question is "no."

No, sandbox PvP is what makes EvE special, and keeps me around.

I'm my own NPC alt.

Removing PvP would break the production - destruction cycle essentially eliminating most of the industrial career choices in the game. Unless the PvE was structured so the NPC's won most of the fights - in which case my game wouldn't change much.

Nope, would be a generally pointless game. I do PvE, but it's only interesting in small doses. And has little point other than to fund the destruction of internet spaceships.

I'd leave. I like a challenge in a game, pve only would have bored me pretty quickly.

'If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins onto their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order.'

Yeah, we're like that.

EVE without PVP would be like a restaurant without a kitchen. The PVP is at the core of everything.

Honestly, I don't know. The idea that some crazy player could suddenly assault me (or that I can do the same) was a major draw for me. I'd at least stop paying for two accounts, I guess.

No PvP at all? On second thought, I would stop paying for my subscription and let my two accounts fall back into alpha-state.

I'd still play it and have fun in it.

On the same coin, EVE would probably not have lived to the ripe age of 13 if it weren't for PvP, so there's that.

No, what would be the point? There are plenty of games with <13 year old game engines that provide much better scripted content if I am looking for that. The magic of Eve like the player-driven market and player-created stories only happen because of the level of interaction we are allowed. Turning Eve into essentially a PvE lobby-shooter would kill everything that has kept this game going, and most people coming back, all these years.

If I may editorialize, that sad fate is what each buff to safety and income brings us closer to. Eve only works because it is a competitive universe featuring non-consensual interactions. Each nerf to non-consensual PvP brings us another step closer to an eventual fail-cascade where content creators give up on trying to make things happen in the universe and the economy, and thus the number of players logging in, comes grinding to a halt.

Eve is not going to die because too many players "get ganked" or can't run 13-year old missions in complete isolation. Eve is going to die after being smothered by more-and-more safety added by well-intentioned Eve players/developers who think they can indefinitely soften the competitive aspect of the game to attract more players but at no cost. At some point down that road, there will be a threshold where Eve is no longer Eve, and the game will not survive that, even as a boring lobby-based mission running/consensual PvP game.

No. If I wanted an npc only game I wouldn't be playing MMOs, i'd be playing on my XBox. Playing with and against peoples to me way more interesting, and in a game with non-consensual pvp, people add value to PVE experience. Either in the form of cooperation (group mission and anomaly running is fun, especially anomalies if you then go do escalations) or competition.

There is NO better feeling for me than being in some kind of complex/dungeon and someone comes in and you kill them, or don't kill them but escape with the loot. I wish we could post killmails here, but suffice it to say that 2 weeks ago (on sept 3) i killed a guy in a Stratios who dared to warp in on me. Ok, the Guristas helped Big smile , but I refrain from shooting one trigger ship till the very end just in case (I run that site for that reason even though others prefer the 'money' sites like forsaken hubs and havens, knowing I can intentionally spawn an extra wave that has a 50-50 chance of aggroing my attacker is extra defense for me).

Without other people, this game would suck, even for those of us who like PVE.

I don't even PvP (direct, ship-to-ship fighting anyways) and I'd leave. Too much of Eve is PvP and to take that away is to take away a part of its charm, more than that, a part of its soul. It would feel too much like playing Skyrim or Fallout 4 after punching "tgm" in the console.

Wouldn't really matter anyways, CCP would end up shutting down the server due to lack of subs at that point. Most would leave immediately, while the rest would simply leave soon afterwards once either boredom or the implications of such a scenario hits them.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Let's see.... I'm part of a group that tried to setup a first person shooter equiventnin EVE, PvP is what makes it fun. In my alts, I fund my PvP by making T2 mods and shop hulls which need to be destroyed at a fairly steady pace in order to keep the market flowing. Without PvP, there would not be such a high demand and the part of industry I enjoy would be fairly dead or require major NPC but orders, which would be dull.

PvP in EVE makes the sandbox go round. Without it, I'd go else where.

So the early consensus is "no, I would not care to try to breathe air that had no Oxygen in it" Big smile

However, it's only a matter of time till certain "One Note Only" characters show up and turn this into a CODE/ganking/bumping thread.
