pfffftttt.......if y'all don't want miners to mine anymore, you should just say so......and take the ships out of the game....no need to train up to fly an orca or hulk anymore or a rorq,,,,,they cant survive......not where they need to anyways

Didn't even know there was a release until I hopped in a Claw to make good time, A to B. What? Where's my mosquito? This ia a bat...What!! It folded it's wings out ahead like, uh, Batman? What! Can't take my eyes off this.

I'm looking forward to seeing what strangeness has happened to my Stiletto. Should be fun.

This is totally out of character for me. I'm usually the "I don't care WHAT they look like. Just will it survive and kill those guys." But y'all have me looking at this thing.

BTW. I KNOW the Thrasher is a shoe stretcher someone pulled out of the closet and took to work during it's design. Don't lie to me. It's undeniable.

And if you want to make some more money and pull more young morons into the game, contract with some of the model kit makers to sell kits of the frigs. Or die casts. Or matchbox.

I'm typing on an ancient IBM clicky keyboard plugged into a USB adaptor, plugged into my Rifter USB hub, plugged into this computer. And can I PLEASE have a Slasher ball cap? Lol

Generally pleased with the patch.

Out of blind luck you hit two of my most common rides; the new Kitsune is adorable and looks like an EWAR platform; I'll miss the tall upper cooling shroud off the old Cheetah, but it's not so bad.

As for other ships, don't care for the exumer look at all--they look too madmax to me and their cpu changes (or lack their of) required some refitting. We also having one player complain of a performance hit (he's a multiminer) from the added effects.

Wish there was more consistency about posting future patches in developer notes.

Thank You for the overview changes. Complete words and readable presets to share with others--the value of this can't be overstated.

before 118.8 release ESC pressing close universe map or solar system map. now ESC open settings menu.
this is annoying as hell !
please revert it to pre-118.8 state.

Liking the redesigns quite a bit overall. Regarding the barges specifically I like that the lengths were kept relative despite the loss of the hardpoints as a guide there. The only thing that irks me is the spinny/glowy cylinders along the top center of the ships. I can see it being done to mirror the old hardpoint counts, but without that background and just looking at the ship's function I wouldn't be able to figure out what they would represent. Couldn't be a reference to base yield as the proc and ret are too close for one to have 2 and the other 1. Can't be hold related since the cov has more than the ret. What's worse is that their an important looking centerpiece of the ship too, making the question stick out in my mind that much more.

This may be a bit of crazy for even caring but had I not known the barges prior to today I think that would bug me more than it does.

The old map still closes correctly through Esc.

Or did you mean the new map's imitation ? Not sure about this one as I haven't really used this ... failure ... on my main in practice.

None the less, whether new or old, they can also be closed through their assigned shortcuts as well.

Did they remove the Papal sites? I hope so because I have been flying for over a fricken hour in highsec trying to find JUST ONE!

/sarcasmon

Thanks CCP for another great patch.

/sarcasmoff

BTW, thanks for the mining barge patch. Completely enjoying all the complaints about their mining barges and how they got gimped. No sarcasm, pure genuine joy right there...

I think there's a spawning issue that should get corrected in a few hours from Wed patch along with the standings bug and any hits we took reversed.

It looks like the Barges and Exhumers have reached the next level of amalgamation. Visually they are virtually one hull with differences only in hull length and number of spinners.

Each Exhumer hull now has the gears of the Skiff [now seen as back lit turbines], the Mack rockers and the Hulk Flames.

Visually you now have Skulkinaw exhumers and Recoverer barges if you merge the names.

Might as well finish the job and render them down to one barge and exhumer hull.

Skulkinaw has all Exhumer benefits.
Recoverer has all Barge benefits.

Make the build cost double.

At the end of the day PvPers simply continue shooting Skiff tanked exhumers and the kills would be twice as shiny as a hulk. Miners are into each one for 400M isk so they have an increased cost of loss against the increased gains.

Now, lets have that BARRAGE of OP and game breaking responses I just know your dying to throw at this.

Heaven help you if you're a returner with a T1 mining barge after this "update". My procurer dropped from 2534M3 in 162s to just under 1400! That's a major hit! (for me at least)

The changes to the barges strip miner count were unnessassary and unwanted(IMHO).

just this. :D

Btw, the new skins are most of them just ******* ugly (especially the stilleto and the male)... Speaking of the stilleto, I just though that it looks like a bird that've just flown into a glass while flying quickly, when I first saw it ^^'

1) Regarding what you said about Caldari ships needing to ALL look graceful like the Caracal/Moa or clumsy like the Blackbird, I really don't think that's the case.

2) Think of military aircraft IRL... the F-14, F-15, F-16, and F-18 are all sleek and graceful looking (but very different in some ways, too... different manufacturers, just like Lai Dai vs. Ishukone or whatever) compared to something like the ugly but tough ol' A-10 Warthog. Fighters/bombers (and cargo planes), just for starters... all have a different look to them.

3) IOW... different craft have different shapes that sometimes (but not always) relate to their purposes. They made the Blackbird look very different from the attack/combat cruisers because it's an EWAR cruiser and needed to have lots of pokey bits to show how sensor-y it is, I guess. :)

4) Also, it's not like it's just Caldari. Gallente and Minmatar ships also have a very different look to some of them on the same level (the frigs, the cruisers, the battleships)... I think Amarr is the closest to having a cohensive/consistent look, but that's not necessarily something we have to have. Again, see the Air Force craft for an example.

1.) This is not what I said. I mentioned how I don't think they stick true to their own design cheat-sheet, not that everything should look the same. Furthermore I mentioned how CCP appears to want to re-design Caldari as "Angular/techy/sleeker" which goes completely contrary against their decade-lasting design philosophy of blocky, bulky, edgy shapes which defined Caldari Culture. I disagree with the implementation of this redesign, but I can appreciate how some changes have been made well in regards to the original ship hull. I do admit how some ships were in dire need of an entire overhaul, so I welcomed the change of the Moa. Yet other redesigns haven't been very fitting.

Previously, All ships have stayed much in the same line before, but with the introduction of the new design philosophy we see severe discrepancies. The Caracal for example employs the triangular surfaces in a techy sleek style, whereas a very similar tech-style is completely different on the Blackbird and now on the sad thing that once was the glorious Griffin.

2.) No, I don't think of aircraft IRL. Because I don't need to, since we are in space and given that, we are in soft-scifi territory of a game. All aircraft need to follow first a practicality of aerodynamics while cramming in all their tech-related specs. If it doesn't lift off, it's a failure. Look at how heavy the NB-36H was, which was the prototype of testing feasibility and weight of shielding while carrying a nuclear reactor that was meant to power the aeroplane. Yet, we're in space. Not playing Kerbal Space Program, so design and style are a much greater factor.
I just need to point out how ridiculous and out of place the Mordu ships look like. A very unimaginative idea to copy-paste real-world aircraft design onto spaceships, really.

3.) While you would be correct how silhouettes are normally important to immediately distinguish different ships from one another, you're missing something. Who looks at the ship to determine what it is ingame when time is of the essence? Nobody. We look at our overview and give intel and judge priorities and force multipliers based on the ship type we see in written letters. In terms of playability and game mechanics the ships could look all look like Perry Rhodan spheres for all that matters. This is not the established style of EvE.

4.) In any game of quality which has different races, factions, tribes or whatchacall'em, you will see distinctive stylistic patterns and philosophies which are applied throughout the entire category. All old five eve Factions (Pre-trinity) had a very distinctive style to them. This style was preserved when Trinity went live. There have been some deviations to these established norms, but they have not been major and have been smoothed out in time. These changes have indeed been very good and were direly needed. The idea to make Caldari symmetric on a large scale was reasonable to distinguish them more from the - at times - asymmetric Gallente designs and Minmatar. The lopsided Minmatar ships were testament to their tinkering, the lopsided Gallente ships were testament to their freeform thinking and culture of individuality. Asymmetry is not something we generally associate with clockwork efficiency, which is what the Caldari are about. So it made sense to do away with it starting with Trinity, and going onward in other well done changes, like the Scorpion.

This yields back to your statement about Amarr. Naturally their ships look like they do, since they have to show flawless, regal appearances. It's a statement.

I'm not saying every design choice they made in the past is bad. As in the case of Amarr, the "fixing" of the Apocalypse was really necessary and welcomed. It made sense. Their respectful approach to the Dominix was also duly appreciated, albeit I don't understand what the big fuss with the Thrasher redesign was. Such a community outcry? Sounds like loudness still is king.
Furthermore I don't need to like every change, as long as it fits the theme. They've made changes I disliked personally, but I had to admit how they fit a better visual representation of the faction.

This batch of new ship designs does not look like they do their own design cheat-sheet justice.

You should see zero change in your yield. If you had 2534 before you should now have 2 strip miners with 1267 each (attaching the second strip miner is a task for you).

I suppose the Barges and Exhumers look ok(ish)

I just find them all a bit...generic looking..

It's almost as if someone couldn't be bothered and just decided to add a bit here and there to each model..

Great looking skins. Looking forward to the bundles. Any chance of getting a bulk discount on individual Barge or Exhumer skins so I can outfit my fleet?
