5. People who have proven to the community that they are just SO bad that no corp will ever recruit them and they're too lazy to make their own

I guess it kind of falls under the umbrella of number 2 but they actually still pay for the game

If you don't want to go to null and want to experience HS, great! Don't create threads like this though and say you CAN'T go to null as a new player

I still disagree with easily getting ships and gear in nullsec in your own capacity as a newbie. Even if you do have enough ISK it is still a challenge. Contracts are hardly within range and the stations hardly have all the gear at once -- so you gotta go flying. Again, I've been there. (Not to disrespect your experience also as you may have had it differently, it's just my perspective).

And to be honest I don't really like handouts as it kills my sense of worth and immersion. I don't really even like asking for stuff. But maybe that's a flaw in me and part of the problem also.

'Right corp' in Eve is like right numbers in lottery ticket in RL. It definitely happens but one should not base his life on getting it soon.


More importantly, a player will never find the "perfect" corp unless he or she actually joins one.

Joined Brave some point last year (with another character) and hated every second of it. The people in chat were hopeless, it was hard to get to know people since there were so many of them, Highsec was a death trap, and even joining fleets was painful. Grinded my teeth two months, took a break for a couple of weeks and left. Never looked back.

The statistical likelihood of my personal experience with EVE being a fringe case is so low that the logical explanation is that people are different and bagging every new player in the same bag and give them the exact same advice is just cramming people into a single playstyle and forsake everything else.

I concede that corporations like Brave and Horde can be a great place for starting players, but I also believe that they might not be a good fit for everyone.

To be honest it's the people who rush Eve experience, try get into all that 3000+ ship action they see online and then set unrealistic expectations who most likely will quit in my view. There is nothing more boring than finding oneself in the inevitable situation thereafter.

And might I add I have a little conspiracy that large nullsec corps are just looking for new player "cannon fodder" and swarms to swell their numbers - not actually looking after their enjoyment. I could be wrong again but I can't shake it. Sorry if this steps on anyones toes. I have to ask myself why nullsec corps set their requirements to accept all 0 or sub 1mil experience point players.

Yeah that's sort of along the lines of what I was getting at, but you wrote it better.

There's no one size fits all, but there's something for everyone.

While this is completely true, a fresh newbie has no real method of finding the right corp except trial and error and they can't really afford to get it wrong when they have very little knowledge about the game and heavily limited access to assets. A newbie going with pretty much any of the corps claiming to be one that would be a positive choice will be lying anyway through either ineptitude or malicious intent, so holding back until you understand a bit more about the game can certainly be a good choice - though by no means the only good choice.

I experienced tidi once and vowed never to get myself into that situation willingly again.

People don't join nullsec only for 3000 ship battles. I've played for four years, lived in HS for maybe 4 months of that time and have never been a battle of over 500 people. Haven't been in a battle of over 50 people in probably two years. They don't interest me, but things outside of HS absolutely do.

I expect I will never fly a capital ship, never be in an 'epic' 3000 person battle, and also never live in HS.

I was meaning to put this down as a point in original OP but left it out. Your post reminded me...

When a player does have some semblance of what he/she is doing it could go a long way for them to start initiating the events and being pro-active. Don't wait on other corp members to do the same. Become the leaders and FC's if no one else is picking it up.

I am one of those stuck in my own shell and find it hard to speak up but it is a solid point I think.

You also forgot number 6, anyone that wants to accomplish anything in highsec that doesn't directly involve war declarations. Look at red frog, their haulers are in NPC corps while their alts, generally with just contract skills, are in the corp just to use the shared contract list. They cant actually function as a corporation so they have to use a shell of a corporation to support what they want to do.

This is the biggest failing of corporations in EVE, they pretty much can't exist at any decent size in highsec without being solely formed for involvement in the "pew pew" variety of PvP, so if you want to be in highsec and your interest doesn't lie in being shot in the face by veterans, there's no real reason to join one. May as well just find a channel with people to chat with (such as the NPC corp channels) and be done with it.
