Was done because precious snowflake console generation can't be expected to do maths, because those clearly are EVE's target audience.

(CCP has for years been catering for a target audience that'll never actually play eve in a contributing manner).

Fozzie explained why it was being done at fanfest. There was no correlation from weapon system to weapon system.

While I agree it seems a bit basic to dumb it all down to one 'score' something needed to be done to make tracking correlate from gun to gun, drone to drone, etc.

Not today spaghetti.

They should have left the previous measurement system in place, and add the score as an additional corelation for those that like numbers pulled from hat.

Just worry about accuracy score rather than rads and tracking speed.
Hue.

Except they're actually not helping new players by doing this. Replacing actual measurements of well understood, non-abstract concepts like radial velocity and radians per second with an abstract score is not simpler. It actually adds an additional layer of obfuscation since you can't see the actual factors that are affecting your ability to hit.

Heh, compare eve tracking mechanics to the four hidden stats of pokemon. Which game has more players? Players that have stuck with eve have been the types that are obsessive about details, but the general public doesn't want details and clarity. They want simplicity and obfuscation. This relates to the other thread, how to get more players. Obfuscate and simplify the displayed stats to the point of irrelevancy and then the people will come. Skyrim has mods like perma that come with deliberately obscure perk descriptions and the majority prefer the obscurity.

What we need to do is replace the HUD with a face. When you are at high armor, structure, and shields the hud shows a happy face that becomes progressively unhappy as your ships hidden stats decrease.

Just think of how crowded eve will become.

Of course I prefer clear mechanics. But that doesn't draw in new players. Instead it makes most people's heads explode.

It's actually not all that difficult to do tracking mechanics as an 'easy' indicator. Simply put, CCP is making EVE intentionally difficult and it's a choice.

If they wanted to make it easy, they'd have a little warning arrow that appeared above your turret icon to let you know your guns are unable to keep up. Then again, to make it super simple, you'd also have an option on the right click menu that says "Hold fire if guns aren't tracking". Then your guns wouldn't shoot until you got yourself aligned right, or they'd only shoot when they had a shot.

Even real turrets from 20 years ago had this function. It's amazing our super sci-fi space craft computers can't do it.

Until then, it should be instinctual WHY you aren't hitting a target. If the target is small and fast, you have a tracking or range issue, fix it. If the target is big and slow, you have a range issue.

If only someone had already posted in the correct forum section... >_>

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal.

This is really odd. In the original description of the new tactical menu they mentioned that they were going to also make it so you can see your tracking of your guns via hovering over the module, which I have suggested numerous times.

However, somewhere along the way it stopped being listed as part of that bundle. I don't know where it went but at this point I am waiting to see what does and doesn't get announced by Vegas for the November release before I decide what drums still need to be banged on.

All that said I agree, your ships capabilities, including your chances to hit your enemy, should be clear to allow for better piloting, and more informed decisions.

+1 with OP weapon accuracy score hasn t solved anything, it was designed for ...and made the things akward and harder to apprehend than before

My proposal :

Divide WAS by 40, give it the appropriate unit : rad.s^-1 .km^-1

Now it corresponds to angular velocity for a 1km signature radius target (quite common, unlike 40km), correct accordingly to the sig radius of your current target .

This "factor 40" is what makes it too far removed from having a relevant unit and being easy to compute.

On the one hand, I was kind of bummed when CCP switched to WAS for turrets. No longer could a pilot easily correlate a single overview column with a weapon stat and have a decent idea of whether their shots were likely to do any damage.

On the other hand, turrets are now in the same boat as missiles in this regard, so at least CCP is being consistent.... Ugh

That weapon score is measuered in Fahrenheit/cubicseconds or so.
Makes it surely easier to know if you might hit or not.

to confusing

so i switched to missiles which are easy to understand

1. sig radius of enemy
2. speed of enemy

and poof, you know the dmg

Yeah, I loath this stupid change. Add the worthless WAS to the game, and we can ignore it. Remove ACTUAL tracking speed from the game? Are you f'ing kidding me? Another "look! we have 100% adoption rates!" change to pad the resume of a dev who wants to find a better job. Not the first time stupid crap like this happens, and it's too much to hope it'll be the last.

Weapon score is directly related to "actual tracking speed". It is not arbitrary.

Weapon score = radians second * 1000 for a base 40m sig target.

You still have to adjust for your targets sig relative to your guns base sig, just now all guns have base sig 40 instead of varying.
