I'd like to propose an Eve Radio in the console of every ship..well... UI? It'd be awesome to have the option to stream even a low bandwidth Eve Radio stream like a car radio in game. I know Eve Radio has been taking a hit with a drop off in its numbers and it's a great Eve community. Some greater exposure via the UI might really pick up player awareness of it and maybe get some of these new F2P audience into it sooner.

so you want them to get free advertising from CCP?

otherwise there is no reason not just have this running on you browser with no need for CCP to make and maintain this

I don't know. Make a case for them?

In this case, Eve Radio builds an in game community and player dialog, in game, in real time. My case to CCP would be that it this leads to subscriptions or renewals because of its community-enhancing effects.

Making more players aware of it with a feature like this would lead to a shorter decision time to purchase/renew and give social reasons to remain engaged, ie, decrease subscription cancellations and increase F2P players.

Is this a bring back the jukebox thread?

You raise a good point. It isn't so much about the jukebox as much as it is about the type of interactivity that occurs when DJs are live. Maybe the twist here would be to broadcast / have the 'radio' play only when DJs were live? A lot of the other mechanics such as shared chat channel etc are already present.

Hang on DJs? There is the perfect reason not to implement this. My Most hated thing in the other games is their simulated DJs, normally if a game has these I turn off the in-game radio/music and switch to playing out of game music.

Fair enough, let the thing have an "off switch" :-) Really this UI widget exposes players to it's existence. This might be good especially if F2P does lead to new players.

The bottom line is the longer players are online, the better the game is. Enhancing social opportunities is good and it leverages something that cannot otherwise be manufactured.

Eve's player-driven meta-narratives are unique and this is a way to tie these back into the game.

And, if it works, the idea is fairly extensible too (e.g. the CCP 'news hour', in station broadcasts, whatever). I think a lot of solo players might enjoy a chance to be part of a community if they knew about it.

On more than one occasion Eve Radio has tilted me in favor or renewing versus taking a break. The shows are usually good and it's a community that doesn't involve a CTA.

CCP would never do that. For now they are not even sure EVE radio will be around for next year. They already removed EVE jukebox. An in game winamp.

They dont want to continue in game browser for example. Spending developers time for a thing that is basically a second browser on your pc. It happens to run in game, but you could get nearly the same effect by making EVE use borderless window display mode and placing your favourite browser on top of game screen.

They are probably thinking "why we have to do a job of maintaining those things, when there are people who make it better than us"?

I would frankly think the same, and divert resources to something that would make EVE core game experience better.

Meh seems like a lot of work to promote a specific party. Let eve radio make an overlay like an overwolf app. Done. Or use wmp with on top checked.

Come get some cancer @ my blog !
