It's looks like fun but it should be limited to frigate class vessels.
The RPG perspective is better anyway for cruiser class and above.
RTS commands and additional controls similar to Homeworld Cataclysm integrated into the tactical overlay could help with fleets coordination, formations, and such. There's a lot of room for improvement.

Eve Online is'nt a fighter game. How many time does this will have to be repeated? I mean, how many ships would benefit from this feature in game? None.

I mean, just look at the position of the turrets in your games! They're directly aiming foward because those are fighters! You know? The little things that come out of carriers and supercarriers in Eve! Applying these to bigger ships would'nt work since they have rotating turrets.

How would you apply fighter controls to a game like Eve? Even if you can control each of the turrets manually, you still have to set the ship on a path and then control the turrets like in Battlestations Pacific. You can't pilot the ship and fire the guns at the same time like with a fighter (it's even impossible as well with frigates, since they have rotating turrets).

Also, if you tell me about tanks in games like Battlefield 3, this is a completely different story. First, they only have one turret, and any additionnal turret require another crew member, and second, you usually fire in the direction you're moving. Also, you,re not moving in a 3D X/Y/Z axis like in Eve, its all on a 2D X/Y terrain, since it's on a planet. So its easier to do with two controls (keyboard for moving the tank and mouse for the turret).

You know Simi, some people have this thing called a life and can't spend their time at work playing a computer game for years, sorry, when I said playing, I meant botting or checking in to look at how the skills are doing, but with the forum now letting you do that out of game it's sort of eliminated one of the only reasons that people log onto the game in the first place.

It kinda explains why there are so many players who have obviously played this game for too long posting so much lately actually.

I don't understand all of the CCP asskissers.. as if they are going to send you billions of ISK for being an dishonest, devout client.

Even if it is nto that great using the up arrom to go up and down to go down would be fun. have it so pressing a directional key is esentially the same a clicking to go that direction.

The hard part will be how much does your ship turn when you press a direction key? does it attempt to do a 90deg turn each key press?
I imagine each key press would result in a 15deg directional change. So clicking is still better but may be fun to use. Maybe even have it settable by the player.

But say in my crusader would push and holding turn my ship @ 10deg a second...and a speed of 80% of max or @20deg a second and a much tighter orbit but much lower speed.

The BSG has these preset and locked....in eve if i want to turn really sharp I can click rotate the camera and click 180 deg and do a sharp turn that bleeds almost all of my speed...or a few clicks @ 45deg to my direction of traven to do a slower gentler turn but retain my speed. It not as simple a just pushing and turning. We also need to work within the established mechanics of EvE.

Hence I would suggest:

All directions based on current direction of travel not camera view.
Pressing a directional arrow would do the equivilant of clicking in space a set amount above, below or beside your ship. The amout to the side hitting the side arrow key clicks may be setable and able to equate to some deg directional change. This would enable pilots to use directional comands to pilot the ship.....though clicking is a better option as it gives more control. I can see usning this when piloting as it free's the mouse to do other clicking as eve is very click heavy.

Example: when the camera is Xm behind the ship a click 10pixels from the ship would equate to a 10deg direction change. If pressing the -> key achieved the same result it would mean each -> click would turn your ship 10deg. I don't know what x is but sure some smart CCP dev can figure that out. Maybe even a slider to choose how far away the effective click is when i push -> so in an inty i could crank that up. So my inty would turn a 20deg a press but my BS may turn slower per press(or more so i only hit it once to come about)

Using these phantom clicks it may be possible to use directional control? Can CCP have it so a key press equates to a click in space?
