I am new to the game and i have played about a month a few years back. Now i have returned and see that i have an Algos ship-
I want to do missions and currently im on a mission where i have to bail out unless i want to be blown to bits.
Im sure i have fitted my ship poorly.
So can anyone help me with that? Can you in any ways see my ship and fitttings?

No, we don't have any way to see your ships and fits unless you provide access to an api key (but no need to do that). If everyone could access everyone's ships and fits, that would be extremely useful intelligence for conflict, particularly sov wars.

So the easiest would be to post a bit more information about the mission (which mission is it?) and then more advice can be given.

The good thing about the Algos is it's a great drone ship and can be either shield or armor tanked, plus lots of room for turrets, so I'm sure if you post a little more information, there'll be plenty of advice available.

Probably more important that ship fit is piloting style. Many people will share a ship fit that they have had great success with to someone else only to have the other person do very poorly in the exact same ship. Piloting style factors in a lot in this game. So the best advice that someone could probably give you is how to fly the ship.

The Algos, being a drone boat, is often ranged tanked. Meaning you will kite the NPCs from beyond their range to do any damage while your drones chew away at them.

Eve Uni is typically a good place to start when beginning to look into any eve related topic but when it comes to ship fits should in no way be construed as a last word. It is just a very basic guideline that is a good starting point for you to work outward from.

Algos is a destroyer, uses drones and guns.

Destroyers are designed to kill frigates; they're a bit of a glass cannon, because they have almost no defenses (like a frigate), but their bigger size and slower speed makes them easier to kill than frigates. But they get double the number of weapons compared to a frigate.

So this means destroyer tactics are typically: shoot them dead, fast, before they can damage you.

Unfortunately, for PVE fights are protracted affairs with multiple waves and minutes of having to stay in the area and deal with swarms of ships... not a good environment for a destroyer.

Anyway, what I'm getting at, for that particular mission where it sounds like you need a bit of defense, use a frigate. If you like drones, try a Tristan, otherwise for guns try an Incursus. Both are versatile and pretty tough.

As Memphis says, the Algos uses drones as one of it's main weapon systems. Have you trained up any drone skills? If you have not, you are missing a large part of the skills needed to fly an Algos effectively.

In Eve, weapons do four specific types of damage. Those damage types are EM (Electro-Magnetic, you zap ships with high voltage), Thermal (heat, you cook/melt other ships with heat), Kinetic (punch lots of holes in other ships) and Explosive (explosions, duh!).

Very few weapons do all four types of damage at the same time, most weapons do two types of damage at the same time. The Algos is a Gallente ship, and Gallente ships specialise in using "hybrid" guns and drones. Hybrid guns normally do a combination of Thermal and Kinetic damage at the same time. Hybrid guns do not do EM or Explosive damage. Drones normally do one type of damage. The exact type of damage they do depends on which type of drones they are. Amarr drones do EM damage, Caldari drones do Kinetic damage, Gallente drones do Thermal damage, Minmatar drones do explosive damage. Even though you are flying a Gallente ship, you can use any drone type you want. The race of your character or the race of your ship does not restrict the race of drones you can use.

When you perform missions for NPC agents, they ask you to fight NPC "pirates" (mostly, some missions ask you to fight NPC ships belong to other major NPC empires). There are several different NPC pirate factions, and each faction is weak against one of the four damage types. Each pirate faction also specialises in doing a certain type of damage.

Why is this important to know? You can configure your ship's defences to resist the damage type used by a particular pirate faction, meaning you take less damage from the pirates. You can also configure the type of damage your ship does to make your weapons more effective against a particular pirate faction, meaning you do more damage to them.

Since you are flying a Gallente ship that has bonuses for hybrid guns, you have a slight problem. Hybrid guns only do Thermal and Kinetic damage, they cannot do EM or Explosive damage. Your guns will do less damage against pirate factions that have strong defences against Thermal and/or Kinetic damage, but you can change the types of drones you are using so that you bring drones that are strong against a particular pirate faction's weakness.

You don't have to bring all four types of drones into every mission, when the NPC agent offers you a mission, it will mention which pirate faction you will be fighting, and you can look up what type of damage they are weak against (and what type of damage they do) to prepare your ship for that mission.

When I fly missions in a drone ship, I bring several different sets of drones with me to the station where the NPC agent is. After I've checked which pirates I will be fighting in a mission, I take the drones that do the type of damage those pirates are weak against, I leave the other drones in the station (since I have to come back to that station to complete the mission and get the reward). I also bring along different defence modules and swap them around before I start each mission to improve my ship's defences for the type of damage used by the pirate faction I will be fighting.

So how do you find the information on what types of damage (and damage resistance) are best for each pirate faction?

Here's one of my really old fits from when I was a newbie. You can run Serpentis Hideaways np in this and I have even done Serpentis DED 3/10's with it.

My thought here was that it would be a good idea to make a Stratios with training wheels. Roll lol

With this fit, you wanna just use your MWD when needed and keep your distance- far enough where you can still apply your dps and minimize the rat's dps.

Just in case you don't know, you can select the text in the quote, and then in game, open your fitting window (Alt + F) At the bottom right of the screen, click 'Browse' and then in the new popup window, 'Import from Clipboard'

I hope this helps! Welcome to New Eden SmileCool

Lulu's fit is pretty advanced.

I too have run an Algos and still do. For Sites and Missions, you can do well at range. Go for max size Prototype Gauss guns since you are beyond 50km, you can hit even the smallest of targets, usually one shotting them or crippling them, your drones can be used for clean up.

What I just said runs CONTRARY to most drone boat use but by putting the aggro on your ship, your drones are very rarely shot at by smaller foes, which they are want to do otherwise.

I change when I'm up against something that's cruiser sized or larger. I let the drones engage first and then lay into the target with the guns after the drones are annoying the heck out of the target. You can easily down a Battlecruiser this way, but it does take time if it's active tanked.

Battleships are pretty much a bridge too far DPS-wise if they have active tank which many/most do. I have done it successfully but it's a really, reallly, really long haul and takes some special tactics.

Your Algos CAN speed tank and be blaster fit, going up close and personal. You have to active armor tank though and drop down a blaster size to keep tracking working well. Lulu's fit does that with railguns, but blasters are a different beast.

Some people don't like the Algos, but I'm not with them. A 5 gun drone boat the size of a destroyer packs a nasty punch. When fit to match your piloting skills, it can be one of the more dangerous ships out there. You just have to decide and STAY at the range you fit for. That's why it's not a great PvP boat because once a player sees how you're fit, they are going to mess with your choice immediately.

Tell us where you are comfy fighting and maybe we can help out with a decent fit.
