Question about loot stealers

Hi all,

I just experienced mission-loot stealing. Was working on a lvl4 mission in 0.9 system. Guy appeared, marked red, as if a pirate. I've checked his standing and he was positive. So I assumed it's a bug in displaying status. But guy then started collecting my loot. So I figured out, doesn't matter, anyway I wasn't going to collect it. So I've 'abandoned all nearby wrecks'. Even chatted with that lad a bit.

When I got my final target, I simply assumed that he can't take my mission loot. Doesn't make any sense right? But, he did! And asked for 1mil isk to give it to me.

Now, my question is not if I should pay or not. My question is:

I'm in a 2nd or 3rd room of my mission. No sentry guns or Concord nearby. If I shoot him, will Concord appear from nowhere to fry me? Or will I loose security standing? Or both?

I've searched through forum, but still got it very unclear if in fact, I can do this without consequences.

Char that did this was Patris Tissant, if anyone needs to know. Happened in Kappas (0.9).

If this question was already answered somewhere in forum, I apologize but I really couldn't find it in search.

Thank you.

Hi,

this happens quite often.....guy(s) show(s) around at your mission in a cheap ship....steals your loot / mission item.....

here are some basic tips
-Ignore IGNore IGNORE !!! He can't do anything until you shoot at him...but don't do that,
he will just come back in a shiny battleship and shoot the crap out of you
-do another mission in the meantine (another system preferred), get back later
-he stole your mission specific item? SO ? check market / contracts...some are very cheap

+ your mission restarts after downtime....so.....no point paying for anything

PS: if you shoot him, concord wont do anything if he is already red to you.....but you don't want to let him shoot you, do you ?

I am not old, just bitter.

He wasnt after your loot. He wanted to destroy you.

After you shoot at him he will either warp off or warp in an alt with a DPS ship. And WTFpwn you. Don't pay him. Wait until DT and do the mission again.

Thanks to all for advise.

I assumed it gotta be something fishy, as it would be too easy to kill him in that small ship. So I backed off and made this post.

I really hope that CCP can at least make it impossible for anyone to take one particular item from the wreck, which is mission-dependent.

This is not World of Warcraft of Guild Wars.

Welcome to EVE though.

I do have to agree about the prevent taking of critical item part.

Everything else is a valid thieving target but mission critical loot should be reserved at this time. Otherwise it is just asking for more petitions to be filed.

Um.. whats the purpose of your comment?

It's obvious that EVE and WoW are two different products/services. WoW is a family-friendly game, where parents can play with their kids and not be disturbed by rats. EVE is for passionate gamers and SF fans.

I wasn't complaining. Just was curious why would someone steal someone's mission loot, during mission combat, and if agrro on that player will be sanctioned by Concord. That's all I asked.

Piracy - great. Did it myself with other alt. But this is way too low. Where's honor in that?

If he steals from you, you can shot him without being sanctioned by Concord but then he is allowed to shot back without any consequences too.

You can try to report him for harassment but until he does it excessively, it's very unlikely that CCP will care about it. It's part of the game to disturb others mission.

About honor - it's a game, nothing is honorable about playing a game - regardless how you play it.

It is a bit silly that your agent sends you off on some super secret mission only to have some loser easily scan it down and join the party. What?

0/10 for reality.

As usual, forget logic and common sense and make sure you understand how this EVE game mechanic works.

Mission invaders are usually trying to pick fights with what they perceive to be easy targets. They're at the bottom of the EVE food chain.

If you're a newbie just ignore them. But when you're more skilled, use yourself as bait and lay traps for these losers. Pirate

They are not scanning down your 'super secret mission', they are scanning for your ship in space. Fairly realistic as far as things can be in Eve.

So you mean that in the real world, when an FSB agent tracks down a CIA agent (or vice versa) to steal from him supa dupa secret documents it's unrealistic and these people should be banned from real life for abusing the system ?
