Little Tweaks to improve PI

This isn't a "PI needs a complete rework" thread. It probably does, but complete reworks take a long time, so this post is suggestions for quick and easy things that would make PI better within the current fundamental mechanic.

  1. Make "Access Customs Office" an option from a bookmark of a Customs Office
  2. Add an option to save Extractor Head layouts (similar to how Scan Probe Layouts can be saved)
  3. Shift-Drag should move all the Extractor Heads, retaining their current layout
  4. Attempting to place a Planetary Facility too close to another one just puts it as close as possible in that direction
  5. Remove the "Expand List > Select Only Item in the drop-down list" annoyance in planet view
  6. Once selected, the build tool retains the selected build type - no more clicking for every link I want to install
  7. Power Grid and CPU appear in the status box at the top left all the time, and selecting or mouse-over on a build item gives a projection of increased grid use (same as for Ships, Citadels, etc)
  8. Add a "Filter by available inputs" option when selecting a Schematic to install
  9. Make Ice Planets less bright.

Anyone want to add any?

- Let me select multple processors and select a schematic all at once.
- make command centres more meaningful.
- Have a little graphic of planet side haulers moving across your linkszBear

Drag and drop everything from the panel to the planet pls.

Not sure about this; drag and drop is worse for RSI. Just a reduction in the number of clicks please.

Anything would be better than what we have now and if we ask the CCP guy who did the PI nicely, he may even be convinced to do it.

I am not so sure about that. Installing a schematic in a processor and routing things from there to a storage/launchpad is 4 double clicks. It can't get easier and more effortless than that. What irks me, however, is the routing from a storage/launchpad's storage tab to the processors. After every routing, the storage tab closes and you need to reopen it. That needs to change and the storage tab needs to remain open. Also, you cannot just double click on a product in the storage tab to initiate the routing dialog like in processors; you need to click on "create route" instead. That also should be replaced by a double click (which currently opens the Show Info window)

Another things that needs improvement is the extraction setup. It's really annoying to find the right duration with one click. You have to fiddle with the text above the slider to find a spot close to your desired duration and then use the + and - button to get to the exact hour. More often than not, I find myself using the scroll wheel of my mouse to finetune hours -- only to realize that it doesn't work. The slider also needs to be longer and have at least day interval indicators.

Keep the holograms, but make them a bit smaller and click through. I put my structures really close together and sometimes they block proper placement of adjacent structures. In addition to that: Stop changing the size of the structure circle when you click on it. It's kinda annoying for placing structures as close as possible to another.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Definitely improve the slider for program duration! Provide detents at reasonable intervals (i.e. 24 hours) that can be selected with a single click and use the mouse wheel for fine adjustment. While the click-fest can be frustrating, PI needs some mechanism to reward more active gameplay.

I always use the same duration. Just a check box for "remember these settings" would work fine for me.

I think PI also could use buildings that can convert CPU to power and back. Call them "Server Farm" and "Cold Fusion Reactor" for example. I always have this annoying problem that I run out of power, while only using about 20% of the CPU. Maybe it's just me doing something wrong?

If you want an intelligent argument, please do, I'm up for it!

But if you want a trolling contest, I will win it by simply not participating.

How about being able to plug in a Micro Aux Power thingy? buildings with fitting slots...
