EvE has "web guys?" What do they do all day?

And only "guys?"

As a web designer specializing in "responsive design" (making sure sites look good no matter what device they're viewed on), let me tell y'all something:
It is not a zero sum game. You can make a site look good on PCs and on smartphones and on everything in between, at the same time, without compromising any part of the design on any of those for the sake of the others. How? Media queries. Media queries are blocks of style code that come into effect only when their conditions (e.g. a minimum or maximum screen width) are met. They are very simple for a web designer to take advantage of. (Fun fact: the screen width condition used is usually one that responds to the width of the browser, not the total width of the screen, so on a "responsive" site you can just resize your browser to see how the design changes for different widths.)

I don't suppose I should take screenshots to take the point home? THESE forums I can read perfectly and are beautiful to behold (Yay \o/ ) the Valkyrie one? Can't navitage, can't read; way too cluttered man, no clear separation lines, font looks way too thin and it's lacking colour.

Can't we just keep what we've got here pretty please?

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

If anyone thinks these forums are buggy and problematic, go take a look at the daily wtf. They swapped out for Discourse a while back as a part of a plan to intentionally break things so that the Discourse team would have the opportunity to fix things.

Well, opportunities have been found and quite a lot of them are simply not going to be addressed because of the vision the discourse team has for the way things should work.

Atwood was originally part of the plan, but a lot of bad blood developed pretty quickly when he and d-team realized just what a bad place the software was in, and the dwtf crowd realized that they were stuck with permanently broken forums.

Carefull what you wish for, people. There are worse forums platforms out there than this one.

Just coming to say, TDWTF forums no longer run Discourse. They swapped over to NodeBB a while back, so going over there now wouldn't be a fair assessment, unless you just read the major bug thread from Discourse (this one)

You're absolutely right though, Atwood and crew saw what the TDWTF users could poke holes in, ***** about, and find as ways to break the software and basically did the equivalent of "I'm taking my ball and going home". Went so far as to ban most of the known TDWTF crew from the development/bugtracker instance too, from what I recall.

Keep forms as they are now.
They're very clean / clean to read and i like them as they are.

Alot of modern mobile phones have resolution of at least 1280x720 so viewing forums on mobile should be ok.

EVE Valkyrie Forums are just confusing, very hard to read on desktop, i don't like it.

I hope that if CCP does choose to move to Discourse, they choose an implementation that's very different from the EVE Valkyrie forums. It's ugly, hard to read, and overall not very appealing. Personally, all I want from any forum revamp is (A) all the old posts and resources preserved at their current URLs, and (B) decent mobile capability without sacrificing desktop functionality (see the BeamNG.com forums for a great example of this)

That Valkyrie forum linked is absolutely horrible.

I would rather squint my eyes & scroll side ways and zoom in & out like a maniac to read from the current forum than to use that Valkyrie forum format.

Ideally we can keep this forum but just make it able to scale/change text lines to fit different mobile platform screen sizes, but seriously, if we are going to get that Valkyrie forum format I rather we keep what we have now with no changes.

I don't even care for search function or any improvement. That Valkyrie forum format is so horrible it makes me love the current EVE forum and think it's perfect as it is now.

I'll never ask for any improvement on forums if you scrap the idea of adopting that horrendous Valkyrie forum.

That forum layout is horrendous.

Here I used to have a sig of our old Camper in space. Now it is disregarded as being the wrong format. Looking out the window I see one thing: Nothing wrong with the format of our Camper! Silly CCP......

The EVE Valkyrie site is some of the largest piles of filth I've ever seen in terms of forum design. Absolutely horrible. Barely readable and the layout is confusing.

I don't really get why opting for existing high grade forum software like Xenforo is not an option. It's cheap and you can customize it as much as you freaking want. It could have all the functionality the current forum has and much more. Maybe not out of the box, but Xenforo has documentation for everything.

And most importantly, Xenforo is adaptive between desktop and mobile without sacrificing the look of either.

lol now every time people talk about forum update CCP can link the Valkyrie forum and say 'you guys could get this instead' and we'll all just say 'the current forum is fine! forgive us for asking for any changes!'

IF the forums are getting changed into phonefriendly format, i hope there is an option for desktop mode since smartphone format looks like really really bad.
