Hi all,

I'm a returning player to eve after a long while (4 years absence, only 6.3 mil sp) . Decided to mine for a bit (im a miner with a hulk,,,so don't really have a lot of sp in non indy/mining trees atm).

I want to switch from mining and give ratting/misison running a try.

I looked for ratting guides on Youtube and the web and most seem to be pretty outdated and/or too many different opinions for a newbie like me.

Seems like Drone boats seem to be a good popular ratting choice.

I would really appreciate any recommendations you guys can give regarding a ship path and maybe some links to good fittings :)

Thanks in advance!

People prefer drone boats, but I find it horrendously boring. Find a ship you enjoy flying, and look at its mastery page to get an idea for the skills you'll need.

Where you fly will also make a huge difference, so you'llet have to decide that first.

I personally have a nightmare and tengu for when I get the itch to rat, but since I don't rat that often i'm far from optimized

Turn your mining skills to good use and start mining other players' hulls

Just be mindful, the rats are one thing. The gankers are another. Keep the D-Scan up, and have a plan.
Turning a ratting ship on a CODE weenie is fun from what I hear - content creation of the highest order.

We must accommodate the idiocracy.

Ratting in different ways can include the Cosmo area, one of these is in Friggi if memory serves me, this is where you get a ton of ratting and salvage, loot, etc, storyline missions, plenty of ISK in that area.

As far as the HULK, honestly keep it docked unless your in a fleet, for a solo player get a procurer or venture, don't bother with a moble tractor unit as this is the biggest red flag for come grief me cause people will scan this down and jump in on you.

Better yet, don't pretend.

The dead swans lay in the stagnant pool. They lay. They rotted. They turned Around occasionally. Bits of flesh dropped off them from Time to time. And sank into the pool's mire. They also smelt a great deal.

Don't go for straight efficiency. Play with ships, modules and manual piloting. See how the different parts work when you mix them different ways and do different things with them.

Definitely learn how gunplay works.

Some of the more popular more efficient ships are: vexor navy issue, Gila, tengu, Golem, Rattlesnake, Machariel . You can get about 600-800 dps out of the cruisers depending on fit and almost double that out of the battleships. The cruisers can do L4s when set up properly. I would stay away from Amarr for ratting. Other than that you can rat in pretty much anything with weapons. Ive done L3s and 5/10 sites in an assault frigate for example.

Use this to help you with what hardeners to fit for what missions and which rats are triggers. Use rat spec hardeners. Save triggers for last. Always kill scramming rats first. If scrammers are the trigger then you can save them for last if you think you will be ok. Otherwise you always want to be able to warp out if you need too.

I disagree. Amarrian ships are great for ratting, provided you rat blood raiders or sanshas nation. Not having to resupply ammo is huge.

Aspiring to shoot npcs. Setting your sights high I see :)

In any case ratting covers a broad range of activities, the lowest starting in 0.7 systems and below in asteroid belts and ending in C6 wormholes

Most new players can take a vexor navy issue down to Providence and earn a solid 50m/hour doing anomalies, this can increase to around 70ish with skills and experience but it's enough to start with.
