its not actualy free to play cause u will have 2 seperate clones, and i really like this idea, the best thing is that u wont have acces to ur main clone(with all skills) until u reactivate, but till then u can still have some fun and not rush to get a plex or rush to buy gametime or so, with this feature everything will be chill :3 and i dont think the basic alpha clones will have more then 2m sp, so yea, i think its great, cant wait for this to hit, a lot more people will try to come and play, knowing taht they dont have anymore just 14/21 days to try something out :D, so yea, its great in my oppinion :)

This means they make enough money from selling cosmetics.
That's not too bad.....

I got to read this again...

I understand that the basic Alpha clone will have up to 5m sp, but some skills are banned.

It's gonna end up as people getting 200 alt accounts to go out and bot mine in ventures.

If they get banned, they can now just make more accounts free.

There sure will be a lot of bots mining. I think this will be a challenge for the eve economy.

More than that, just the sheer number of nubbers flooding in, doing PI and stuff, without botting even, is gonna stress the market hard.

Yes, I made it before the majority of the tears!

To all the people who called me crazy when I always said EVE would go F2P within 2 years: Suck it, b*tches Cool

Anyway, on topic; very good development that was bound to happen sooner or later. And executed in the only way that makes sense. Thank you CCP for doing what is best to keep EVE alive for many years to come.

Question: Can i now get 50 free acoounts that are ready-to-go for suicide ganking freighters and the like? Seems bad.

whats the difference now and later for botting with miners or pi staff???
only difference is that now they need to make new accoutns every 14 days, so i dont think thats gonna be a problem.

I honestly can't find anything wrong with this. If ganking is a problem, they already said they'll restrict Safety settings so Alphas can't aggress in high-sec. If the same person keeps running bots, CCP can ban all those Alphas and then ban the Main of the person doing it.

This is yet another huge change to EVE Online that everyone is freaking the **** out about that will eventually just become part of our day-to-day lives in-game and have negligible detrimental effect.

I mean, there's still going to be a threadnaught, but hopefully people will eventually chill out and think reasonably about this.

Schocked when i did read the dev-blog title, super-calm when i did finish read the devblog and realized CCP has taken very good care of potential abuses and hopefully WILL.

Thats the only thing I am afraid of, potential abuses of established eve-players.

Free to play with a Premium option is not bad. Many games thrive under this model, its like giving people an extended trial period.

For example Blade & Soul, Guild Wars 2, etc. they all do good under the Free to Play model. If they can get people hooked, then people will spend money on the premium subscription and microtransactions.

So they are facing the same challenge, they need to get people hooked.

Any game developer's goal is to get as many players as possible, cater to the mass audience. So CCP needs to ask themselves: how likely will players be hooked in this game? When all you do during PvP is hit F1 - F4, and have to dedicate at least 2 hours for an op. Otherwise you just have to sit on the gate and gate camp. Eve Online is like the baseball of video games, it's very slow paced.

I've been playing Eve for 5 years, and probably only 10% of this time was spent PvP'ing. The most fun I've ever had was playing the market. The biggest adrenaline rush I've had was buying some assets, and watch as it increase 10x in value. PvP in Eve just doesn't do it for me, it gets boring fast.

For Player vs. Player, Guild Wars 2 is much more fun than Eve.
For Micromanagement, Dota 2 is much more fun than Eve.
For Strategy, Starcraft is much more fun than Eve.

So Eve Online is not a master in any of these types of gameplay.

I have a lot to say, but it's mostly speculation, and mostly stuff I've said before. I've read the devblog, seen CCP Seagull explain it on YouTube just now, and I can't say I'm not curious as to how this is gonna end up, but my YT comment summarises my feelings on the matter - and so begins the final death knell of EVE Online.
