What's a good drone plan for a new bro to the game here. Do I need to get everything to level V to be effective?
I want to do about 75% pvp, and maybe try out some pve content or ratting.

Your plan should end up with Drones and Light Drone Operation at level 5
Drone Avionics, Navigation, Sharpshooting, Interfacing and Durability at level 4
Gallente and Minmatar drone specialization at level 1

This will let you fly a full squadron of 5 T2 light drones - Hobgoblins or Warriors with reasonable support skills. Depending on implants, training time will take about 3 weeks.

Medium Drone Operation to level 5 will add 9 days +/- bringing the total training time to a month and let you fly T2 Hammerhead and Valkerie.

Hull bonuses are important. Gallente and some Amarr hulls have a 10%/level bonus to drone damage and hitpoints. Gurista pirate ships also have a bonus for drones.

Advanced Drone Avionics is worth adding for additional range and the ability to fly ECM drones and you'll eventually want the other racial drone specialization skills but can get by without them for a while.

Make sure your core fitting skills are at level 5 before you think about level 5's for drone support skills.

Is this plan for a main or an alt ?

Main. I was looking at maybe Vexor or Gila. they seem easy to train into.

If this is your main and your first Eve character I would not recommend you focus on any one thing. I typically recommend that new players keep their skills spread around and try out everything. You can "specialize" in something when you know that you need to. What I mean by that is if you are asking questions about what you should specialize in or how you should specialize into something then you probably should not be specializing.

In Eve each level of a skill takes 5 times longer than the previous level with no increased benefit. That means that level 5 takes 625 times longer to train than level 1. So you are much better off keeping your skills spread around and only training up high in something when you know that you need it or years down the road when you've trained up everything that you need and don't know what to train next

And then you add in Drone Interfacing which is 10% / lvl.

Ya and he will run into skills that are prereques for other skills also. I forgot to mention that there are level 5's that he's wind up training early on. My point was more that you should not be looking for skills to max out.

10% is not 25%.

Drone Interfacing V should be nowhere near as high up the priority list as Drones V for a newish character.

I think the point was that each level of drone interfacing stacks massively with your fifth drone from drones 5.

OP check out the Tristan for pvp. It's good to keep things cheap while you are learning and it's a great ship.
