No Evelopedia, Backstage broken?

Hi,

I'm a new player from the Steam FTP weekend. I really want to get into RP, but I feel I need to know a little more about New Eden. Mark726's collected materials are nice, but I don't want to read too much into the lore yet for fear of spoilers. And, at least the official backstory page is still up, so I'll go through those soon enough. Besides these what's left? I'm looking for some generic information like this on the Gallente Federation, for example. And speaking of that page, it's acknowledgedly a lesser version of "The Fully Factual Guide to the Federation," but when I try their link to the original PDF, it too is missing.

So, besides fixing Backstage or undertaking a large project to make Wikia's Eve section useful, how can I get this kind of info? Is there anyone on these forums who'd be willing to share their backstory/basic info/lore PDFs, epubs, and the like?

Thanks for anything you can contribute,
~Akatsuki

Welcome to Eve.

CCP published a book on the Eve backstory a couple of years ago titled Eve Source. A promotional video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jthyWHPmTCs

It's available from Amazon in hardcover or Kindle EBook versions. https://www.amazon.com/EVE-Source-CCP-Games/dp/1616552719

There's the chronicles that help and google.

I'm not sure it's smart to suggest you to spend money on a book.
Don't. Wait first, buy later.

There's ingame channels, OOC would be the one you're looking for.

It's the official out of character channel and the perfect place to ask questions!

The big EVE wiki was shut down due to being heavily out-of-date (allegedly due to not having enough people, though when I applied to join the wiki team to try to help update it almost a full year before it was pulled, I never heard anything back... slightly miffed about that).

There are a variety of locations that have rehosted what data was available in the download before the wiki was pulled. You've found one of them, and because most (all?) of the rehosts put up everything that was available, nobody will have the file you're looking for as it wasn't included in that download.

There's a bit more information at https://community.eveonline.com/backstory/ as well as the links in the left-hand sidebar on that page, but sadly, a huge amount of information (both lore-related and still-relevant in-game information) was lost when the wiki was pulled.

Because EvE Online is not based on a linear story line but rather is a web made from the actions of we it's players, I'm not sure storyline spoilers are something you need to be concerned about.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!! ( 。◕ ‿ ◕。)

Yes, the Chronicles was twice suggested to me in this thread despite my saying, "I'll go through those soon enough." Perhaps I worded this poorly. If I hadn't been using Google, I wouldn't have found any of the materials I mentioned at the top. Thank you anyway. ╮( ︶▽︶)╭

Thank you. I'll wait on any non-PLEX purchases. I'll try OOC for specific questions. ( ◕‿~) ー☆

I see. I tend to download every pdf I read, skim, or want to read later—Eve-related or otherwise—so that I can find and reference it quickly or have something to read when my ISP goes out. I was hoping there might be others who have done the same. ( ╯_╰)

Well, for example, I'm in the midst of the Sisters of Eve Epic Arc right now. I'd hate to read so much that I spoil the work CCP has put into this. But something like this link on Backstage shows me that as "education is another key part of Gallente culture… free education is entitled to every citizen." This helps me better understand the canvas on which I paint my humble character without revealing any plot points. These are the kind of resources I'm most interested in right now. ( ⊙ヮ⊙)

Please refer to post #7 in which I reply to Vortexo VonBrenner's statement to the same effect. ( ಠ.ಠ)

Sorry to fork this thread, but what exactly happened to Backstage? Most articles are empty, but if you look at their history they had one previous entry which I assume was extracted from the fallen Eve Wiki. I have not been able to restore any of these. ( ╯_╰)

You can find the old wiki in the Wayback Machine. (I don't know how much it differs from the hosting on eve-inspiracy. It's supposed to be a mirror of the last days of the original wiki from, I believe, February 2016.) The main page is here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20160228013958/https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Main_Page

Unfortunely it's all slow und the search function doesn't work, so I usually prefer eve-inspiracy. If a link on eve-inspiracy refers to the wiki (which means, it will be broken now) you can try the following awful procedure - as an example the missing PDF in your OP: http://wiki.eve-inspiracy.com/index.php?title=Overview_of_the_Gallente_Federation

- Click on the link anyway. You land on the "Evelopedia has been discontinued" page. Copy the url from your browser's address bar. It should be this one: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/The_Fully_Factual_Guide_to_the_Federation

- Append this url to the base url of the Wayback Machine which is "http://web.archive.org/web/"

- Then you should get: http://web.archive.org/web/http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/The_Fully_Factual_Guide_to_the_Federation This link should work.

On that page is a "Solid Cover Version" link which allows downloading the PDF, or - because it just refers to eve-files - you can directly use the link to eve-files: http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/Seriphyn/Fedguide1.pdf

You, sir, are brilliant! ( 。♥‿♥。) I have use the Wayback Machine many times. I don't know why I never thought of this! Also, thank you for your very detailed explanation that will aid future wanderers once this topic has been closed.
