Pirate Faction Drones

This is an idea or concept rather, that I think will add a ton of versatility and intrigue to an area that is already a pretty essential portion of the game. I think the strength of this idea mostly comes in the form of PvP, where these will most likely see most use, due to their nature. The concept is that of Pirate Faction drones. I am not entirely sure if this idea has been posted before, but I am sure it is not in the same magnitude as I am doing currently.

These drones will, by design, be a skill intensive train for those who wish to use them. The drones will require, among other basic skills, the respective drone category of skill to V (I.E. Light drone operation V, medium drone operation V, etc.), Advanced Drone avionics, due to their ability to use Electronic Warfare methods, and two different racial drone specialization skills to level 1, similar to how ordinary pirate faction ships work.

Skills Required; Example: Gurista Medium Drone:
Medium Drone Operation V
Advanced Drone Avionics IV
Gallente Drone Specialization I
Caldari Drone Specialization I

Bonuses and habits of these drones are entirely based upon the habits of the respective pirate faction to which they belong. For instance, the Gurista medium drone would essentially be a re-skinned Vespa with the gurista camo. It's damage dealt would be High Kinetic with slight thermal. These drones would use the Electronic warfare of the mission rats in that respective faction, so, for Guristas that means ECM. As for skill bonuses. These drones would not receive the inherent 2% bonus per level of the racial specialization skills, but would rather have a trait line in their info.

Skill Bonuses; Example: Gurista Medium Drone:
Caldari Drone Specialization
5% Bonus per level to ECM effectiveness
Gallente Drone Specialization
4% Bonus per level to damage

These drones will have associated modes the user can switch between in order to change whether the drones will work as EC utility or damage dealers.

Other examples for factions would be Angel Cartel using target painters, Serpentis using damps. Acquiring these drones would be simple, however dangerous. The only method for acquisition would be mission running for the noted faction, and upgrading tech 1 drones through LP, similar to the militia LP drones upgrades.

I still have not decided on names; any suggestions would be appreciated. Feel free to share your feedback. If you think this is too powerful, perhaps another tweak to design may be necessary. If anyone is willing to post information on base stats or wants to share other ideas, please do.

Soooooo are you wanting them to both Ewar AND Damage at the same time.....???? Or were you thinking more along the way fighters are with activation of abilities?

because one of those MAY be workable... the other is OP AF and a huge NO

I agree with you, and probably more with an activation, like fighters. I have never used fighters but I am assuming there is a mode, like a tactical destroyer?

EDIT: I should have made that more clear in the original post. I'll find a place to edit that in.

Fighters have their own UI you can detach from the module UI which, for simplicity sake, basically gives them(each fighter group) 3 slots you can activate for each ability.

Not my image, just the first decent one google pulled up

But that's basically the fighter interface. Your drones would either need to do Either damage OR Ewar, or otherwise require a similar interface to dictate between damage or Ewar.

Kinda OP not that OP though. Could be a way to make ewar drones less useless again (save ECM).

Come get some cancer @ my blog !
