Unable to create a new character on existing account

I am now unable to create a new character on an existing account.

I have two characters on this account. When I click on the "+" in the third portrait slot, I am presented with my choice of race.

I choose my race (it doesn't matter which race is chosen) and select "Next" in the lower right.

The "Choose Bloodline" window appears, and the "busy" swirl animation starts up, runs for a second, and the game freezes.

The entire Mac is frozen, and requires a hard reset to recover. I have tried waiting for a long time (up to 15 minutes) to see if the problem resolved itself.

I'm running MacOS 10.11.15 on a 2.4 GHz core i5 Macbook pro with 8 GB of RAM.

Launcher version is 1064566.1031

Is anyone else having this same problem?

Any suggested work-arounds?

Thanks

Hi,

i tryed this on 10.9.5 this morning. It is working but it takes a long time for the next windows to apperar because i have done a fresh install on this mac and the game has to download a lot of stuff.

so have you tryed to force quit the client ?
have you tryed to verify the shared cache and to reset the cache setting ?

Thanks for giving this a try. I tried clearing the cache and doing it again. This time, I left it running while I went to the store to see if I was just being impatient. Nope, it was still locked up an hour later when I returned.

I certainly hope the character creation process does not require > 1 hour. Big smile

As for force-quitting, I cannot do this. No keyboard commands will work. The Mac is completely locked up, and only a hard reset (holding down the power on button for several seconds) will force a re-boot so I can recover.

Most annoying. I hope that there are not a group of potential EVE players who cannot get past the initial character creation screen!

I am the "download everything" option to see if that helps. But, it is pulling about 5.5 GB of files down, so it is going to take some time.

OK, tried again after waiting for the launcher to download 5.5GB of stuff. But, it didn't help. My machine still crashes on the "bloodline" screen in character creation.

Is anyone else having this problem? Any ideas for how i might fix it?

Switched back to Cider and tried again. Op success!

It appears that WINE was the culprit.

Hi,

strange. I play (and work with) 3 different mac's, i cannot remember any situation whre i have to hard reset my mac in the last couple of month.

It happens sometimes but not eve specific. normaly i can always force quit eve client.

for me it sounds like a problem with your mac / grafik card and wine. For me wine was a great improvement in stability specially for my imac retina.
