Hello,

I am looking for resources (preferably articles) about early EVE history. i am mostly interested in how gameplay and economy looked like in first weeks/months/years after game release. This topic seems pretty interesting, so I would like to read a bit about that

Also, some additional questions (if there are no answers to them in links):

- What was the first trade hub, why was it used and why is it not used anymore?
- How game in current SOV null looked like before SOV system was implemented?
- What were the main power blocks in first years of the game? What were their main areas of operations?
- What of the current PvE and PvP activities were available just after game release?
- How ship tree looked like? (how much ships, what kinds of ships, main differences)

First hub was Yulai as it was the center of the universe because of the initial super highway gate systems that linked the empires.

From what I gathered, not my area of expertise was that early on it was much like NPC null is, all the stations were unclaimable and you had to patrol your area to keep people out. There wasnt even alliances back then iirc and coalitions werent official by blue lists. They were much like provis bio system and out of game blue/red list still is.

Power blocks are out of my pay grade at the time.

Ratting, mining and sites but exploration was a VERY different system using static sites and missions werent implemented when I started they only came in later on after a year or so. Running NPC bought trade goods or shooting NPC convoys were a big thing too. PvP was different because of the 15km run to the gate issue, concord got buffed thanx to M0o. Piracy on low sec choke or entry points was common as the early gate system separated high sec a bit differently.

Ship tree was basically frigates and cruisers and then battleships came out after some time. Nothing Tech 2 at all until much later. Basically the 6 frigates and 4 cruisers of each race. No faction, no T2s or T3s. And when the BS came out it was only the 2 original BSs for each race, not the old "tier 3" BS that were added later ( rokh, abaddon, hyperion and maelstrom). So a grand total of 40 ships to choose from.

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

You might find this page interesting. This is from a very old site still faithfully being tended until November of last year.

EVE - Releases

The notes in the right-hand column are not elaborate, but may help your quest in a small way.
The early stuff is at the bottom.

Here's a fairly decent screeny of your in-game view, June of 2003

Mate, you're asking the wrong questions.
I have to admit at first thought I don't know them either...

... so I'll just leave this here.

And always ask about m0o!

Minerals were bought by npc in the beginning for fixed rates (trit for 1isk, megacyte for 4096isk).

Factory and research slots were limited, so you kept them busy to not loose them, hence the 500 ME blueprints.

When you jumped gate, you didn't spawn at the gate, but some point in the system which was often camped.

Mines were in the game.

Launchers were merely limited by internal capacity, so you could have kestrels with a cruise missile in the small launchers.

You couldn't freely choose an agent but it required a recommendation from your current one to get access to a (eventually) better one.

There was some chain with those agents too which resulted in a T2 bpo (i think it was the first way to introduce them).

Dual MWD ships were pretty fast Big smile

The stacking penalties were introduced after mOo used mallers with all heatsinks in the lows.

To put things in relation ... some peace negotiations demanded one (1) Battleship from the surrendering party

There is also the "EVE Strategy Guide" The second genesis.

It has a complete listing of all the original ships along with loads of information on the different races of eve including the systems and details of everything from high sec to low sec along with pirate space.

Surprised no one has mentioned http://eve-history.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page yet.

Its pretty good for the early history and communities / corps
