Because there can be more ways to be allowed to take the gate - Like in the Angel red light district you can take the gate even if you don't have the gardens key thingy IF all the rats in the room is dead.

That then leaves you with what is the key for, if you don't need it but can just kill all rats?

*shrugs* I don't know - cause even if you kill the the garden thingy and takes key then you can't activate the gate while it is guarded by rats (iirc). And with all rats gone the gate is open to all. And because you need to kill all the rats, an key from an old Angels red light doesn't work.

I know it is not same site that you run, but i wouldn't be surprised if the mechanics are the same.

Step two: Go to home system.
Step three: Rat there, they'll leave you alone/protect you.
Step four: You're done.
