another question about exploring, but in a Navy Slicer....

So I have a nicely fitted Imperial Navy Slicer that does around 75 dps (I guess it's a good fit anyway). I've outfitted a probe scanner on it and loaded a bunch of probes in my hold. I was planning on scanning down some combat sites. Is this feasible? Will I stand a chance in one? Thanks!

k cool. And are combat sites good for ISK? Do I need any special mods to run them? Thanks!

You can probably do 3/10 DEDs with some decent skills.

75 DPS kinda low though so you might struggle in a 3/10 DED. Also what weapons are you using, pulse or beam lasers?

I have 2x Dual Light Beam Laser T2 with a multifrequency charge on each. Why, what do you suggest? And how do I tell when a a site is "3/10"? :)

when you scan a combat site with probes they will either be "rated" or "unrated"

When you warp to such a site a pop up will appear with a description of what the site is and "rated" sites will have a rating out of 10 stated on it which describes the difficulty.

3/10 consists mainly of frigates, destroyers and the odd cruiser and as long as you keep proper range and don't spawn extra waves you should be able to do them.

Look for Hideout and Lookout sites as well as DED 1/10 and DED 2/10, also Hideaway and Burrow anomalies.

Those are good starter sites and later can move up to larger sites when you get more skilled and experienced with a larger ship.

A Slicer wouldn't be a ship I'd choose for probing down and running combat sites. How good are your skills, both probing and Slicer related?

The Slicer does not get bonus' to scanning and I presume you haven't fitted scanning rigs, so unless your scanning skills are very good, you will struggle to find sites. The sort of combat sites that you can run will have such low payouts that you would be just as well running level 2 missions for someone.

My preferred ship would be an Astero, but you need good drone skills for it to work. At the same time you could run data and relic sites without needing to refit between sites, as it has bonus' for scanning, Relic and Data analysers and can fit a Covert cloak, plus has the needed lows and mids to fit the necessary modules along with some tank and drone damage amps.

How does this Astero do at combat sites? I currently have a Probe but clearly it will fail at combat (hence why I was trying my Slicer).

With halfway decen drone and armour skills the asteo offers considerable bang fo supisingly little sp.
Its pricy for a frigate but thats your trade off.

Train the perequisits for a covert ops cloak and you can now go anywhere in relative safety

Astero ship bonus':

Role bonuses:
.100% reduction in Cloaking Devices CPU requirement
.37.5% bonus to Core and Combat Scanner Probe strength
.+10 bonus to Relic and Data Analyzer virus strength
·Can fit Covert Ops Cloaking Device
·Cloak reactivation delay reduced to 15 seconds

Gallente Frigate bonuses (per skill level):
.20% bonus to Drone hitpoints

Amarr Frigate bonuses (per skill level):
.4% bonus to all armor resistances

Price: 52-55M

Typical fit for exploration/NPC combat:

[Hi]
Covert Cloak
Expanded Probe Launcher (Sisters Probes) - Sisters launcher if you can afford

[Mid]
5mn MWD (Use an Afterburner if fitting issues)
Data Analyser (leave off line if CPU issues)
Relic Analyser
Target Painter (for taking aggro before drones)

[Low]
Armor Repairer II
Damage Control II
Drone Damage Amp II
Drone Damage Amp II

[Rigs]
Pretty flexible here, choices - drone damage, armor resist, scanning or fitting rigs as desired or needed.

[Drone Bay]
5 x Hobgoblin II
5 x Warrior II
5 x ECM 300 (for use in PvP situations only)

You might want to carry 5 x Acolyte II in cargo to switch with Warriors, depending on expected rats.
