I've been playing eve since on and off since 2010. Over the years I have started a family, gotten married, went back to college to finish my degree. I've always been able to find some time to play Eve and have never felt left behind by updates. I've enjoyed the learning curve, the challenges, and the community.

So, a few weeks ago, I got laid off. Happens to the best of us. Instead of doing the easy thing and getting another job. I'm starting my own company.

So thank you Eve for helping me HTFU. Hopefully I can build a company others will enjoy as much as you guys at CCP.

Good luck in the world of Business, I have a half arsed one that sort of makes a little money. But it's more a second job than anything ground breaking.

The hardest thing you can do is go into business for yourself, but those long hours are all for you. If you are capable of putting in long hours for someone else, then running our own business will be easy.

Welcome to the world of owning your own means of production.

Thank you all. RL has kept me out of Pvp for a few years now. I've been working as a Machinist for too long and I'm a few classes from completing my Mechanical Design degree. The industrial side of Eve has been interesting enough that i haven't unsubscribed for awhile.

The first thing I am learning (or Knew already) is how difficult it is to do anything productive with two kids running around the house. I have been a stay at home dad for almost a month now and my house is *almost clean. I find myself looking forward to the beginning of the fall semester and when my oldest goes back to school.

United States Incorporation specifics read like they were written by the unpaid interns of white-wolf publishing. Fortunately I have years of experience in sorting through the obscure language of table top game mechanics to fall back on.

If you're in the U.S., you probably just have to file a corporation registration with your state government. In most states it's really simple, and inexpensive too. You don't even have confirm your identity or anything. In most states, it's the state Department of State that handles it.

(On the other hand dissolving a corporation is a real pain. First, you have to get clearance from the state department of labor and department of finance saying that you don't owe them any money. That can take months or years).

Good to see you again Axure, its been awhile. Good luck on your endeavors, if one thing is for certain EvE does help with some RL applications. I went from store clerk to regional manager in 7 months where I work, and 90% of how I learned to do what I do is from herding cats on this game along with the money management skills needed to play the markets.

You can do it :)

I know two guys who took very different approach to their career after becoming a father.

One guy was working for a mega-corp, long hours and lots of pressure. He switched to a bit less intensive work so he can find more time for his kid.

Another guy was on decent salary at an architecture house, when he got his second kid he felt he wanted much more than what a salary man can normally expect. He quit his decent job and set up his own company, and doing pretty well now.

None of the approaches are bettwr or worse. As you know being a dad for a while now, kids grow up fast. Work more to have more money for them, but you also don't want to miss out on family time.

I wish you all th best and hope you find a good balance.

Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

Today - November 9th - is Carl Sagan Day. Thank's for all the well wishes.

I have been weighing the pros and con's of focusing profit on hardware vs providing content. My experience is in building prototypes being a machinist, but I've always had the assumption that coding was cheaper. Have fun all.

If you plan on starting a business in the U.S., definitely check out the Small Business Administration's website (they have loads of helpful content) and understand what your state laws are on taxation. A lot of states have some amazing, and often times tax-free, incentives for those who register their business and take the proper avenues of competing in the market.

Additionally, check out Microsoft's BizSpark program. They provide free software and IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-Service) for those startup businesses who have shown a professional interest in actually starting a business (I think you need a legally filed business at the state level and a website showing your product of service)

This makes it to where all your software, hosting and infrastructure needs are basically completed paid for, for a few years or up to like your first million dollars.
