My laptop never had trouble rending anything at max graphics setting until this patch. Now my graphics totally choke in anomalies like forsaken/forlorn hubs and havens (unless I turn off all effects), but no problems anywhere else. Cry

Please create bug reports when this happens. Mine got attached to a defect the dev team apparently is working on. But the more samples with different setups the better.

Workarounds: low shader or effects off, both remove the environmental clouds.

Since this patch my clients have been locking up randomly, I get a white window on one or the other, or both, I then can not shut them except with the task manager. This happens about three or four times a day now. I am on a new desktop with windows 10 running. Things were going well until this. It is a bit frustrating in combat situations to say the least.

You need to do something about the new cloud rendering. While it looks nice and has fixed some issues (for instance in the Forsaken Rally Points, the cloud does not flicker any longer), it causes unbearable frame rate drops in other areas like the Independence (both rooms with their huge red clouds) or the L4 mission "Desperate Maneuvers". I admit that my AMD HD 5770 is not the most powerful gfx card any more, but it can't be that the Independence kills my frame rate to 1-2 FPS just by entering that plex, or the mentioned mission causes a frame rate drop from 40 FPS down to 11. In both situations, the game becomes unplayable and only dropping the Shader Quality level down to low (essentially removing the clouds completely) improves the situation, but it can't be that I have to meddle with shader settings ever time I fly into a certain mission or complex. Furthermore, I do not experience frame rate drops in the Forsaken Rally Point anomaly, which obviously still has a gas cloud, so it is possible to have the shaders at medium, see the clouds and not suffer from extreme frame rate drops.

And on a related note: Mordu's Legion Command still bears the old crest in the mission description and Show Info window and not the new crest visible, for instance, on their ships. That ought to be fixed after more than 5 releases since the introduction of the new logo.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

The new clouds have generally performed better in our in-house testing, but certain mission and deadspace sites have authoring issues that cause frame rate drops, so please bug report them as you see them. I'll point your message out to the devs who are keeping an eye on this so we can arrange to take a look at those specific sites you mention. (Edit: The content team is aware of those issues and will have a look at the cloud authoring in both of those sites.)

Also, to people here who are reporting general cloud performance issues: If you are having this problem, please bug report that from within client so we can see a snapshot of your hardware and software configuration.

A week has passed and CCP did nothing. And here what I have figured out for the week:

"No system's sound" problem with ASUS Xonar DGX soundcard and Windows 7.

Solution A: Disable discrete sound card and use integrated Realtek, etc.
Solution B: Use Windows 10 and discrete sound card.

"Video driver crash and EVE client crash" problem with ATI HD 7850 and Windows 10.

Solution: Run client with "DirectX9" flag and "Download everything" flag in settings.

So, with the audio bug we do not have a reliable repro yet inhouse.

We have an Asus card that is reliable giving us a repro in one machine only, win7 64, asus card with onboard realtek audio device. Trying to repro this on a win7 32, asus card and onboard realtek did not work.

I'd really appreciate getting the complete machine specs on all the computers that are having the problem to try to narrow it down and get a reliable test scenario.

You can enable/disable playback on any device and get audio back on all programs..

A workaround in the meantime for those having sound issues. If you have onboard sound builtin to the computer, then just disable your Asus sound card and make sure your onboard sound is working. (don't forget to plug your speakers into the onboard sound jack!)

I tend to look on the brighter side here - it's an excuse to update my several years old sound card. The onboard sound works for now though.

I'll add a +1 to the client lock-up in stations. My client will freeze completely for a minute or two and then recover every 5 or so minutes. I'm also sadly in the AMD boat (Sapphire Vapor-X HD7950 3G, AMD FX-8350 Eight Core 4.0Ghz)

I also get the performance loss in clouds since they were changed, although I haven't tested it in this release due to the above issue.

I can still station trade though :)

Spec for the audio bug:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, SP1
Motherboard : MSI Z97 Gaming 3 (Realtek Sound onboard!)
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K
Video card : Saphire Tri-X Radeon R9 290X
Sound card : ASUS Xonar D1 PCI 7.1 Audio Card

If I am ingame and start playing a youtube video outside of the game (with xonar as default device) I don't hear the sound of the video until I activate OR unactivate ANY Sound Device (with asus xonar always as default device). When the video ends and I start watching a new video, I have no sound again UNTIL I activate OR unactivate any sound device again. So it doesn't matter which device! And it doesn't matter if I activate or unactivate it.

I have a unique setup producing the same "audio issue" but as I also use my system as a music studio, I actually don't have a sound card, per se. Hopefully this will be a unique machine spec breakdown for you, though it, too, is a Windows 7 Professional 64-bit:

MY SPECS FOR AUDIO ISSUES:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional, SP1 (64-bit)
Motherboard : MSI MS-7374
Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 545 Processor (3.00 GHz)
Video card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (4096 MB, Dedicated 2048 MB GDDR5)
DirectX: 11.0
Soundcard: NONE!
Sound: M-Audio ProFire 610 studio unit connected via IEEE 1394 Bus
M-Audio Driver version: 5.10.0.5084 (most current for Win7Pro64)

I do hope you guys fix this soon. I can not hear ANYTHING loaded "before" or "after" Eve Launcher has loaded. Also, I cannot hear a second account after the game's first character has loaded.

Thanks for looking into, have bug reported it, link you can find earlier in this thread. Also I want to point out, that this is a general issue with all clouds since the patch. Some better (30-45fps), some worse (below 15fps), most about 20-25fps. The worst I found so far is "Serpentis Haunted Yard".

This is really an issue, as I'm PvPing often in sites/anomalies, which forces me to emergency switch to low shaders to be able to fight (effects off requires a session change). It was not an issue before the patch (means performance loss didn't impact the play).

Investigation bears fruit!

The audio issue is due to the Asus card trying to run at a sample rate not supported by EVE.

Setting the Asus device to run at 48khz at any bit depth will correct the issue.

This problem is constrained exclusively to Windows 7 64-bit.

Didn't helpSad

Have set 48khz in Xonar DX Audio Center - and still no sound outside eve.

It worked perfectly well before the patch. I doubt that the fix for the problem is "change your soundcard settings"..even if this would have been working.

Damn I'm late to the party, I was about to say "but it works with my Asus Xonar D1 just fine" until I realized, it might simply be due to this being an older card. Then I checked that option and it already was on 48Khz.

HOWEVER.

Setting it to anything ABOVE 48Khz mutes all sound outside again, even if all other audio devices are disabled.
So while I appreciate the effort for the quick and dirty fix, I do hope we get a real solution that doesn't require any hands-on tampering. For me it is an unforgiving time for this bug to happen, because I was actually looking forward to switch to 96Khz playback rate with proper studio monitors soon. So I do hope this will be resolved by christmas 2016 :P

Also, you might want to check what the system does with "exclusive audio control" because it seems there are some irregularities to it.

Additional info; this bug also retains when launching eve directly through the exefile in the bin folder, so it seems it's not something that is somehow magically connected to the launcher. Yes I know this goes contrary to what Jared Tobin said; "I do hope you guys fix this soon. I can not hear ANYTHING loaded "before" or "after" Eve Launcher has loaded. Also, I cannot hear a second account after the game's first character has loaded. " - but it is what it is.
When I turn the sample rate back to 44KHz (aka the "non working" part), then I have sound while the launcher is loaded under Win 7 professional 64bit with an i7 6700K. It only ticks out when the actual game is loaded, not just the launcher.

So far I haven't found any troubles with other playback devices using the 48KHz sample rate, but I will let you know if one pops up.

Mastarius Zarr wrote:

Try shutting down the Xonar audio center and then activate the 48KHz setting in the regular system mixer settings. Then check if it worked. If yes, then boot Xonar audio center and see if it accepted the system change. If not, swap setting on the audio exclusive mode and see if that changed anything (although I doubt it will).
If that doesn't do anything, temporarily test if it works on your onboard soundcard or USB sound device, disabling your Xonar first.
If that doesn't work either, mind sharing your computer specs?
