A Fleet Lobby for FCs/Organizers to use

Hello

I know that large-scale FCs are fairly small in number, but this idea would benefit all who participate in fleets - I think, at least.

Basically, a lobby for fleet organizers to use which creates slots and squads in a station. Specific ships could be assigned to the slots (provided by the FC), and slots could also be left unallocated/unspecified for players to add their own ships too.

In my head, an FC would announce a combat fleet and a station/citadel to form up in, at which point his pilots would begin arriving. The Pre-Fleet window would appear once you had joined the fleet, wherein you would see the available slots that the FC had decided on.

Examples of slots would be things like Logi, Tackle, DPS, or for mining guys, you would have Boosts, Haulers, Miners.

So the FC drags ships from the hangar into the slots, and the pilots join the slots. You could even show the skills compatibility with the fit.

Once the FC hits a button, that fleet window goes live, and then the players can begin joining it. I imagine there's an option for Launch Fleet, at which point, the fleet launches in wonderful formation

There would also be a Stragglers option for the late joiners

I like the idea, but know that it would be very hard to introduce.

Has anyone tried this in the past?

+1

Also not mentioned in OP, but a nice addition to the idea would be the ability to save templates for different fleets at a shared corp/alliance level - basically alliances could have fleet presets saved for each of their doctrines rather than it being done on an individual basis by each FC.

but what would I know, I'm just a salvager

+1 Thats actually a reall good fucken idea.

Especially if say all the dps roles are taken, and you try and get in a fleet with DPS, you get fleet full. Then you can get in logi or beg to have guys change.

Back end logistics might be problematic as what happens if you change ship you get auto kicked.

In general the start of a great idea!

Yeah it's going to be massively complicated, but I reckon it would make fleet participation easier. Tying it all into the undocked fleet window would be the biggest issue, and maybe having something like permissions for alliance/corp ships that could autofill depending on the FC - so the alliance/corp only has to worry about filling a hangar rather than dishing out ships to an FC

edit: forgot to add that it would open up all sorts of interesting after-action reports and tools, which might be handy given the demise of the in-game browser

Until this change gets processed one way or the other:

Make a fleet
Create a bunch of squads
Change 'Squad 1' to 'DPS'
Change 'Squad 2' to 'DPS'
and so on
Change 'Squad 8' to 'LOGI'
and so on

Or on a grander scale just make wings and label accordingly and then add squads as necessary under each wing

The current fleet mechanics pretty much already support this. It would be nice if there were a few templates as mentioned above that you could pick from when you open a fleet.

Small gang pvp
Med gang pvp
Large gang pvp
Mining
Small pve
Med pve
Large pve

Opening one of the above templates would have the basic/standard wings and squads already set up.

Edit add: I personally don't feel it's asking too much of a guy joining a fleet to free move to the wing/squad with the label that supports his role

+1 for templates

They could make a squad for "Misfit Toys" so you would have a place to go!
