if you Log Off while in your ship, you will be removed from space and be safe* until you log in again.
if you leave a ship in space and log off elsewhere, the ship will stay there and someone else can probe it down and steal it.

*NOTE: Various aggression timers against both rats and capsuleers mean you can't log-off safely in space until the timer wears down. You can, however, log off safely in a citadel, station or inside a POS shield at any time.

*NOTE 2: If someone spots exactly where you logged off, they can set a trap for you and hope to spring it when you next log-in.

You just come back and its no longer there.

Unless its someone like me that will board your ship, steal all your fittings , or replace tjem with stupid things just to screw with you.

If you log off in a safe spot without using safe log off I think your ship with your pod in it stays in space for one minute before it warps you off to a spot that no one can get to you. At least that is how it used to work before safe log off was introduced.

If you log off with a PvP combat timer ( which is 15 minutes long ) then your ship and pod will remain in space until what is left on the timer ends. Keeping in mind that as long as your ship is involved in combat the timer won't start ticking.

Where I live in Provi we have probed down and ship and pod killed players that have logged off in safe spots with long timers. You need a warp interdiction bubble if you want to catch the pod or you will wind up having to scan the pod down as well.

15 minutes is long enough for someone to probe your ship down and shoot it, which re-sets the timer to 15 minutes. Thus even if it's a big ship, they can keep it from disappearing until a fleet gathers to kill it.

So your best bet is to stay logged in until there are no more timers on your screen, then log off. Because then it's only 1 minute before your ship disappears from the game. Although for some players 1 minute is enough to probe someone down.

as others have said, doing a safe log off in space removes your ship from the game.

I think I've logged off in a station four times in the last year. Unfriendlies can camp stations, they have a very hard time camping a safe spot, so IMO logging in space is one of the safest ways to close out of the game

A mobile depot with a Cloak in it seems to be an option here as well, fit cloak, scoop depot, cloak and then log. Even if you have a timer still active they cannot locate a cloaked ship, at leas this was true in times past however I have not done this since the safe log option was added so please correct me if I am wrong.

Just afk cloak out the timer + safe log.

Pretty sure any active modules shut off when you disconnect. So, cloak until any timers you have end then safe logoff. There is no reason to extend the logoff timer just so you can exit faster. If someone is searching for you the extra 30 seconds is not something you want to hand them. Also need in mind the you can be scanned down pretty fast. I flew in an AG fleet and had a Mack land on a freighter about 15 seconds after it landed at a safe.

the minimum timer for when your ship is removed from space is 30 seconds with safe log off

For a competent prober, this is absolutely enough time for them to find you so if you are caught in a situation and you don't have a cloak and there's nowhere to dock, you can only warp around continually making safes.

Well, in that situation:

1. Don't panic.
2. Open d-scan, see if they have combat probes out.
3. Safe log-off if they don't.
4. If they do, you can still take a chance, as 30 seconds requires good probing technique.
5. Cost of your ship vs. the fact that it's a game and if RL calls you have to log off and do whatever vs. don't get yourself in that situation.

If you have timers that will not allow you to log you most likely cannot dock either so how do you propose to cloak to wait out the timers?

Log off timer is 15 minutes, docking timer is only 1 minute. Timers do not affect cloaking.

Emergency warp starts the second you close the client. When you're in a bubble or pointed, then your ship doesn't warp away.
About 40 seconds after the emergency warp has finished, the ship is removed from space.

All that the "safe log off"option does, is cancel out the emergency warp. You stay where you are, while the timer ticks down and once that finishes, your ship is removed from space immediately.

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.
