Officer stuff is very expensive in-game, so I think the EFT default is to have that unchecked, to prevent unaware newbies from installing 300-million ISK modules on 0.4 million ISK frigates.

Also... - some items simply do not have any Faction, Deadspace, or Officer variants. - you can always type in the item name in the search bar on the top. Make sure there are no misspellings. How did you Veterans start?
