how come when I lock a target I don't see the target circle on my GUI?

I see the target but can't tell how much dps I am doing because I do not see the circle icon which shows how much damage I am doing to him and how much health he has left. What am I doing wrong? I target then target then press t to lock and it seems I lock but see nothing like said above. PLease help...

You should be able to see the damage information scrolling on your screen.

If you go to your Neocom Menu (top left, above your portrait) and go to "Log and Messages" under Accessories, you can check/change the combat settings. You should have "Show Messages In Space" checked. This will show the damage to and from opponents as it occurs.

Your target's icon should show the status of your opponent's shields, armor and structure (they will turn red as they take damage).

you can lock targets faster by pressing CTRL while clicking them in space or the overview.

the likeliest explanation is that the locked target image is hidden behind your overview.
if you remove it, you can see that there is a little crosshair around the image ...
... which you can use to drag it around.

rightclicking on it does something as well.
