I think it is pretty much this. Players that appreciate EVE for it's original design are gradually being supplanted by those that seek a more comfortable MMO. The general tone of threads have gone more towards "I want XyZ to be easier" / "Industrials should tank combat ships" and that type of crap.

It is a bit sad for me personally though, because I'm new to EVE and came here for that dastardly, cut-throat and scamming game-play. The stories in the media about the Guiding Hand Social Club, the Goons and others who play the game well on so many levels is what tempted me here.

I wouldn't want to see the game turn into a space opera with yellow exclamation marks.

Also, I will register my bemusement at a thread on the decline of the forums having, at the time of writing, a 26% representation in terms of posts by Atticus Fynch. There is a lulz in there somewhere.

What you wanted to do was clearly an attempt to get people's private contact-info, through a third party, without those people's consent, and contact them using it, ditto, even those people had not made you free to contact them out of game. (If they wanted to talk to you, then I'm sure they'd have given you their info--that they haven't should tell you something, no?)

Only a total creep would believe that he's somehow entitled to having a company give him other customers' private info, which, I might add, is illegal in most civilised countries.

And you call me a fascist? Do you even know what fascism is? Creep?

Better a fascist than an Internet-creep.

Get a clue, please. And if I may also suggest, seek professional help.

But before you do all that, just stop posting.

Creep.

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

Perhaps he just did not receive enough attention as a child and thus looks for it wherever he can get it.

Fortunately, most of his threads got moved out of GD because CCP got the ISD to start doing their jobs again.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Read the thread. Your name would be added to an already produced generic CCP email already sent regularly to unsubbed players anyway. At no point would the inviting party have access to anyone's information. Failsafes would also be implemented to keep people from repetitive invites as well.

And thank you for bringing the topic to light again.

CCP may take notice and IMPLEMENT IT!!!! Big smile

Actually, he was looking for a mechanism to signal the improvement in EVE Online to previous subscribers but initiated from a player. If you carefully read his suggestion, he wasn't asking for the contact details to be sent to him. It requires a bit of thinking, but in essence it would have been the equivalent of:

(a) Right click contact, select "Notify of EVE features".
(b) Enter a few comments for your "friend"
(c) When a threshold of contacts / time period is reached, CCP sends an email to the old subscriber with the comments from their contacts

At no time would Atticus have been aware of the contact details. It is a novel idea, like including a community response section to a retired subscriber reactivation email and in that guise I could see it having some benefit. Imagine you could register a message to an old foe, with your pilot name, and when (if) CCP sends them a reactivation message and after the regular CCP stuff they see:

"Tarryn Nightstorm had this to say: "All your base are belongs to us!"
"Ai Shun had this to say: "I need a few contracts hauled, would you like to try the new Jump/Warp feature?"
"Atticus Fynch had this to say: "See this forum thread for more information"

and so on ...

But Atticus gets a roasting because he thinks everything F&I is GD and no matter how gently people remind him, he can't seem to get that distinction right Lol

Note: I opposed the idea because if somebody was a real friend, I'd have their contact details already and they would have mine.

GD is just that...General Discussion for anyting EVE related. I was seeking a discussion on the pros and cons of the idea. I wasnt submitting it as a bonifide idea...and havent.

Brainstorming is a problem here I see.

Nice try at a strawman, I'll give you 1/10 for the effort even though you are a known attention whore.

Correct, it is for General Discussion. Features and Ideas is for, as per the Info:

Features and Ideas Info wrote:

It seems to me the brainstorming should instead be happening there and, if you peruse it, you'll see there is a bit of that happening. Even a fledgeling idea can be discussed, dissected and once brainstormed be turned into a fully featured suggestion with links if necessary.

At the same time, how often are you going to swim upstream when you're getting a lot of negative community feedback on the location? I'd put forward that brainstorming is not the problem here. However, I am wondering if we're not going to be visiting this forum in six months for a grand unveiling of what will be a 8/10. Hmmm .... Idea

Edit: ~28% and climbing ...

Point well taken and you are correct.

As for swimming up stream...it's no sweat off my brow. I enjoy flaming the trolls. They bump my threads and I get my licks in while messing with their minds. Take Doc for example. He doesnt know whether to post another reply (which would prove my point) or cease (which would show defeat in his little world). LOL!!!

I appreciate your feedback.Blink

By the way, Doc stopped posting because he doesn't want to forum PVP with retards.

That an emergent game for 30k subscriptions went more mainstream and got 10 times as many.

The more mainstream and aged a game gets, the more the baddies, trolls and other human garbage infect it.

"The baddies?"

I like to refer to them as the clueless or the phallically-challenged.

One of my favorite replies here is "grow-up." I get that often when I post an idea.

Now think about it. You are playing imaginary internet spacships and you are asking me to grow-up?

You know, in a lot of countries other than !!!!AMURRIKKKA **** YEAH!!!1111!!!oneoone!!, gaming is considered a perfectly legitimate adult pastime.

Just putting that out there.

E: Oh, and Atticus, you are the most perfect of hypocrites. Why haven't you been banned/reported yet for trying to stalk other un-subbed players?

rofl, i had to read "AMURRIKKKA " a few times before i said it out loud to get it.

Atticus, you may actually have the ire of the prominent community trolls at this point because of some of your trolling, and there's no hope for you. But I think you know that already.

That said, post very basic newbie questions in "EVE New Citizens Q&A" and ideas in "Features & Ideas Discussion" and you're more likely to not get mouthbreathing idiots in your thread.

Stupid people will always exist, and as Eve grows, more of them got access to GD. If you want to do anything productive, use a different place on the forums.

Er...no. Really...just no. It never has.

It is, however, a great example of the stupidity of the average anonymous internet personality and a constant source of amusement for me.

With a few clicks of my mouse I have a whole forum full of comedy gold. This saves a lot of time having to actually search for funny stuff in the vast black hole that the internet has become. It astounds me (in a 'can't get enough' kind of way) how moronic the average MMO player is. This isn't the worst of the forums I peruse on a daily basis, but it is certainly in the top three.
