If you have multiple characters on an account we should be able to switch between these characters without having to close the game and re-log with the different toon..

Yes we should. it's not going to happen.

CCP investigated the issue and found that saving people 30 seconds of time is not worth the massive amounts of work they'd have to do to make that happen.

Whoa! What the hell was I smoking last night - this was about 5 years ago wasn't it?

You used to have to shut down the game completely, then relaunch the launcher, wait, put the password back in, wait, select the character, wait. Could take 30 or 40 seconds

They fixed all that. You log off, dropping you straight back to the launcher, click the launch button and you are back on the login screen. 10-15 seconds tops.

Adding to this. AFAIK the reason why it won't happen is because the client simply assumes that the character ID stays the same and doesn't check if it is indeed the same character.

My understanding is they need to rewrite the client - which to me isn't such a bad thing. Kill the spaghetti monster

There is just the tiny issue that the client kinda grew in size a tad. I still have my 450MB installation CD Blink
