curse is a piece of crap.

people will run from you, its not easy to catch someone with a curse since its a lame, slow locking cruiser. People who wont run from you will most likely be able to kill your squishy curse since it has virtually no tank. It requires a lot of patience waiting for the right target and a lot of flying skills not to get blapped by a T1 cruiser in point blank range or fall for a bait.

Its not even good for wrecking site runners since CCP changed NPC to protect the farmer.

The only place where it shines is in small scale pvp when you need to shut down active tanks for example. In bigger fleets however, its meaningless again.

Story time(TL;DR at bottom)

True solo is quite difficult in Eve. When i came to eve it was from a game in which i killed people solo all day long( totally different genre of game). I came to eve expecting the same success once i learned the game mechanics and got my skills up. I was greatly disappointed.

Solo in eve was quite difficult. I couldnt fit everything i needed on one ship. My targets were either to fast, did to much dps, or were to tanky. I struggled to fit everything i needed on a ship. My target selection was quite narrow. I had to ignore a majority of possible targets and be picky with target selection.

That actually lead me to settle into the curse with a shield buffer( this was long before the neut nerf, drone damage amps, and ancillary reppers). A friend of mine had a great fit which i modded for my own playstyle. So i flew a 40k buffer tanked AB curse and hunted lowsec ratters. The neuts crippled the ship making it an easier target for my low dps drones. The ab and disruptor allowed me to tank most turrets ships easily. And i slowly chewed away at my target.

The problem for me now was trying to avoid gangs while hunting. A small gang could kill me. I was having issues hunting while being hunted. Getting 2-4 kills before a gang caught me usually. I switched areas various times, did research on local gangs, and tried to avoid their movements. In the end, it was turning out to be a lot of work just to pvp without getting blobbed by a small gang.

I decided, to give up on the solo mostly and start bringing friends. So, me and 1-5 friends would go on little roams. We had better success at surviving and killed a bit more stuff. We still had issues with gangs as some gangs roaming around were 10-30 people. But it was an improvement.

Then i joined a few a pvp alliance with a few friends. We went on 2 -3 hour roams from high sec through a pipe into various null regions. That was more fun. Our gang size was 20-50 and if we lost a few ships we could still fight effectively against gangs. Before, losing a ship or two was crippling.

That lasted maybe 6 months or so before the alliance dissolved as various member corps wanted to do other things and some key people quit playing. I then joined a large null alliance. I went from a roaming gang to a fleet of 300 plus people...per side. It was a novelty at first but i found myself spending a lot of time sitting around doing nothing. We would fleet up for an op and be " on standby" for an hour...or several hours. One day i was on standby at a POS for 8 hours before they said we arent fighting today, thanks for coming. I was mad as hell. I then made a rule. They had 1 hour to send me to do something or i was dropping fleet and doing something else. i dropped quite a few fleets.

That alliance got rolled by a massive blob of alliances. And a few core corps made another alliance which also failed after a couple of months. My own corp bounced around from region to region and alliance to alliance for over a year. I got sick of moving all my stuff. I spent more time moving than playing. I took a break from eve.

I came back after a few months and was in a NPC corp. I joined another corp that was in a well known and respected alliance. An alliance that i had always admired.... It seemed the alliances glory days were behind them though they were still pretty good. I stuck around for a few months, then left eve again. Something just wasnt doing it for me.

I came back after another 6 months. my previous alliance was even smaller now. I decided to find a new alliance. I joined another alliance in the same area who were blue with my previous alliance. My old alliance was just a shell of its former self. It could barely form fleets it seemed like. It had given up most of its space. Most of its members seemed to be inactive.

The alliance i joined was ok. It just seemed to lack character and direction. There was no passion in it. Mindless drones feeding rich leaders. I spent most of my time ratting and running sites. I was in the alliance but didnt feel like i was part of the alliance.

I left that alliance and joined my current alliance. And its like an alliance ive never been in before. I actually have fun with this group. We do all kinds of pvp from defense fleets to gate camps to random roams to sov warfare to cap fights. We fly all kinds of ships from frigs to titans. We change up our doctrines regularly so we dont get bored flying the same stuff over and over.

The leaders keep us well informed and the corps and players both share in the alliances success rather than it being horded by egocentric leaders. The alliance is generally more laid back than most alliances. They arent so big on KBs and are willing to fight even if we will likely lose a few ships. This means we engage in more battles that arent lopsided. They understand that some players dont want to pvp but those players add value to the alliance such as managing industry markets and structures. Our player base is generally happy with almost no drama. It is by far the best alliance ive ever been in in a decade of playing.

TL:DR and moral of the story: Eve isnt designed to be played solo. You will find yourself very limited on what you can do solo, pvp wise. You should try a variety of pvp from solo to large fleets, wardeccing/ganking to sov warfare and W-space hunting. And then find what is most fun for you. It probably wont be solo.

I dont think you are fitting and flying a curse properly.

you can do fairly well solo, if you know the game but not with a curse - there are plenty other, better ships.

Noone wants to fight a curse so gl finding your fights which you're able to win.

Curse has massive advantage now that it does not show up on dscan. Things have changed. It's not like the old days where people see Curse on system and quickly move out. ;)

Cheers Love! The cavalry's here!

Thanks for this. I do already do other forms of pvp, including fleet warfare with my alliance, corp roams etc, I like to sometimes go out in a solo ship and try my luck, granted i've never tried this in anything as expensive as a curse but if it is ifun then I am game for it, Ill also be taking a battleship out solo, will it die? yes probably, but I hope to have good fun doing it.

The most helpful things when you solo pvp are making sure you select the right targets and intel. Know your own ships strengths and weaknesses. Expensive ships are more expensive to lose but tend to give you a bigger target selection and higher chances of surviving provided you fit them properly.

If you are looking for something a little cheaper, you may want to start out doing solo in something like a stealth bomber. They are cheap and have good dps. Just make sure you pvp in an area where your bonused damage isnt resisted for ratting and tank for that area.. cover cloak and fast align will help you avoid gate camps and roaming gangs while you solo hunt.

Going to pop in to ask a quick question here:

I plan on doing some Curse roaming "soon". I am looking at a speedy shield fit, and wondering what implant set would be best? Should I run with Snakes to help with the speed, or are Talismans the hands down best to use for a Curse?

Thanks in advance for any response.

When in doubt, Snakes. Talismans will put pressure on your own capacitor unless your run some tailored fit (they are cool though)

Curse is really unengageable and too slow to really catch anything even if you do catch someone unawares

Only thing you can really do is bait things that think they can kill you ( missile/projectile) with tracking disruptors and guidance disruptors

Since the recon rebalance, it's not hard at all to push a curse over 2k m/s, also you don't even need TD/GD to fight.

Likewise, there are a few ships which have bonuses to several ewar types, but will perform well even if you ignore some of their perks (cruor, ashimmu, sentinel for instance).

I take it the Nano-Curse isn't really a thing anymore?

It's a thing, try it out by yourself.

It's better than a few years ago, thanks to recon rebalance and deadspace neuts.
